My DD shared that this year Science p2 has a lot more questions for them to answer. For every qn, there is a lot more sub section. So if they spent too much time in p1, then may not have time to complete p2.

This year, they are the first batch with MCQ reduce to 28 questions and open-ended increased to 44 marks. Understand that two questions had 5 marks but break into subsection.

but my child's sc teacher (HOD of Science) told us for 1 mark question its either zero or 1 mark no 1/2 mark given so if breakdown of question have alot of 1 marks then it is worst... :scared:

Comment from DS. Maths P1 tricky, P2 ok with some tough questions. Overall a bit tougher than 2016's cos of P1. Science P1 tricky, spent more than time than usual, P2 not easy either, overall tougher than 2016's. Chinese P2 tough compre, tougher than 2016's. Eng tougher than 2016's. :xedfingers:

My boy has abt the same feedback...Maths is easier than prelim, Chinese bcoz he do HCL, so compre section is ok for him, Science P1 tricky so he took more time than he should, end up P2 suffer...he says he just write as fast as he can and whatever that come into his mind...no time to rethink if correct or not...After Science, i think he has lost confidence on his targeted tscore... :slapshead:

Regarding 'either zero or 1 mark no 1/2 mark given', it is very confusing as for school prelim, half mark was still given. Right?

for our practice paper, no 1/2 marks
for prelim paper, given 1/2 marks

Regarding 'either zero or 1 mark no 1/2 mark given', it is very confusing as for school prelim, half mark was still given. Right?[/quote]From my child's school since P6 SA1 & Prelim papers already no 1/2 mark given for 1-mark questions so they were \"trained\" to phase properly.

Looking at how my DD enjoyed herself so much when we allowed her to play console games after she completed her papers yesterday (like a freed bird being released from cage) and how she slept through soundly like a baby, I can only pity her that our education system has taken a toll on her at such a young age. Being my first born, I have a lot of hopes and dreams for her. But reality is different. We must learn how to accept the truth. Every individual is different. Kids have tried their utmost best despite papers were being set tough or tricky. I chose to believe that the system is harsh on them at such young age. Poor kids. Once my European colleague said this to me "I can’t believe you Singaporeans make your kids attend nursery and preschool education at such at young age…where is childhood, where is fun?" Sigh, yes, this is how important Asians value education…


So come the results release day, it will be nerve wrecking for all, including the kids. But being parents, we must continue to give them our moral support and guidance, regardless of how their score is. All they need is assurance, love and care from their mommy and daddy.

@tigressina I felt exactly the same as you! Because my child is also my firstborn, but like what you mentioned I also choose to believed the system is harsh on them not that they are incapable. They are so smart nowadays even know things that we adults do not know.

e.g. this cactus question in Sc P2, how I know why leaves open at night, for goodness sake!! :razz:
