Hi, would like to check for our kids’ Chinese paper, comprehension open ended questions, is complete sentence answer (e.g. 因为…所以…) needed? Ds’s tuition teacher said it is not needed according to PSLE format, but school teacher minus his mark in CA2 because incomplete sentence…

Hi, yes, that's how we've been trained since P1. There can be variations but if the sentence starts off with 因为, it usually pairs with 所以。

Ds tuition teacher mentioned that this is needed in lower primary, but come to PSLE, it is not needed (as in no mark will be deducted for without referring back to the question) then I go thru some past year papers last nite, indeed the answer given for question like 为什么......?The answer given is only 因为......。without referring back to the question, connecting by 所以.....。A bit confused now, think I better check with school teacher too

                for P4 Chinese Paper 2 (SA2) :-
besides coming across questions often related to (e.g. 因为.....所以......) , another type of commonly encountered \"Frequently Asked Question' (FAQ) in Chinese Comprehension Open-ended qns can be :
                \" 你\t 从\t哪\t里\t看\t得\t到 \t小\t明\t是\t一\t个 懂\t事\t(eg) 的\t孩\t子\t?“

Then, just have to \"lift up\" or code the relevant phrases from the whole passage, to answer.

(many schools are having P4 Chinese Paper 2 SA2, either next week or following week. Let's discuss some of the FAQ qns asked in SA2 papers, be it Maths / Science / Chinese / English subject)

As for Science SA2 : due to very tight, limited time left, our P4 children by now should have :-

                1) studied the Science guidebook bible (orange color) by Marshall Cavendish : know all the (P3 + P4) Topics' theory inside out, very well.

Also, study all your school's material handout notes given for (Theory + Practical) work.

Do likewise for your child's tuition centre (whichever centre it may be) material handout notes given.

Get your child to make his / her own notes wherever possible, so as to guide them towards responsible, self-directed independent learning, all the more so esp if you have the intention to prepare / to target your child for 2020 Secondary 1 (IP) track independent learning.

                2) Reviewed all past mistakes done in school's classroom worksheets (assessments), plus all mistakes & corrections done in the mock Science Tests.

                3) Focus (narrow down / zoom into) revision on those Science topics your child is weak in, for both SectionA (MCQ) and Section B(Open-ended
                eg
can be Physics Topics like Magnet, Heat, Light, Matter.

P4 students often encounter problem in understanding Abstract Topics like Heat / Light.

                4) At home, at a quiet corner away from distraction, time your child under exam condition, time allocated for Science SA2 paper is 1 hour 45 mins : to complete a few sets of past year questions, to gear your child up mentally for the actual day exam.

                  P4 SA2 English Paper 2 sample question, on \"Synthesis and Transformation \" :-

                  given

1a. Judy is the cleverest student in our class.
1b. Her brother is a doctor.

                  ___________ whose _________________________.

What is the correct answer ?

                  is it
Judy whose brother is a doctor is the cleverest student in our class.

                  OR

                  is it
Judy, whose brother is a doctor, is the cleverest student in our class

                  qn :
do we need to insert one or two comma, for \"Synthesis and Transformation\" ?
If we do not insert comma (punctuation), will the P4 student be penalized, eg : half mark deducted, since this is an English language Paper 2 ?

Hi I believe the centre is wrong and the commas must be included. They seem to have confused defining relative clause and non-defining relative clause.

Maybe slmkhoo can give some input?

Hi, we folks personally do prefer double commas; still our school's EL HOD did remark, in variations of corrections, that sans comma is also acceptable. 🤷 Check with your school lah. 😄
