Programming Classes

Yes agreed. I think programming can be very useful for kids. Steve jobs and bill gates all that started playing with computers when they were kids

IDA is working with MOE on that now! :imcool:

I think programming will be a good skill to have for sure. If I'm not wrong, the IP schools are offering programming (from what I've heard, python and ruby?) to their students. I've also seen tutors offering programming though I don't think the demand here is strong enough for pure-programming centres (?).
There's a few points that I would like to add though:
- Programming is not for everyone. It is a subject where some people simply can't do well. I've seen people ace their studies only to drop out of computer science course in university.
- There are tons of horrible programmers out there. Unfortunately, there's no easy way to discern to good ones from the bad ones...
Btw, this might an interesting game for kids to get a glimpse of programming:

Good to hear that! Is your kid interested in Java as the programming language or are you looking for just programming in general.Hi,

For Java:

For programming in general:

Depending on what your kid is interested in programming, I could recommend different things.
E.g. for web development, my opinion is to learn HTML/CSS/Javascript first followed by PHP -

May I know anyone sent your kids for any programming class before?
Can share your experience?
Ang Mo Kio CC is now offering programming course for children, Iβm pondering whether I should send my girl for this course. -
There are mobile programming like Mobile Apps and Mobile Games.
There are also other visual programming like Scratch (developed by MIT) and Scratch Jr.
All of these are good as part of STEM, and develop logical thinking and analytical skills.
