I am a Singapore Citizen living in Switzerland. I am a naturalized citizen and hence find the process of P1 registration quite new and complex. We are planning to relocate to Singapore in 2018 and will go through the P1 registration in 2019. As I can choose where to live, I am wondering how we should make this choice. We had planned to live in the Bukit Timah Area as there are a number of good schools. It seems like it would be best to live within a km of a school of choice. Am I correct in assuming that? Any tips on this would be greatly appreciated.

I assume that your child is also a Singapore Citizen.

Living within 1km from the school of choice increases your chance to get in. Please note that for popular schools, living within 1km doesn't guarantee a place.

I also assume that you are not affiliated with any clans or churches, so you won't be eligible for Phase 2B. But if you are a Catholic, you are eligible to register in any Catholic primary school in Phase 2B.

Could you share more about your child (citizenship, gender, choice of school type: same-gender or mixed, etc) so that we can better advise you?

Thank you for your kind response. My daughter is Singaporean. From my research thus far, we have narrowed down to the following: Henry Park, SCGS & RGPS. Have applied for volunteering at all these schools. Depending on which schools accept us and where we find a suitable place to buy/rent, we will make our choice. Being away from Singapore is making this decision so much more open as we now have a choice of where to live as well.

Afterwards you just need to get a place within 1km from the choice school.

Please prepare a backup school in case there are more applicants which force you into balloting as you might not secure the place even if you're going for Phase 2B. The best will be to get a place within 1km from both schools of choice (2B & 2C). I'm not sure about girls school, but there is such place if you're going for boys school. πŸ˜„

Will probably have to apply to volunteer at more schools given that these schools have very limited places for PV and are also very selective in their PV.

I stay near buangkok, and we're 1-2km to both Holy Innocents and Mee Toh, need to go through PV though due to the distance.

Anybody got any advice which school is better academically? I do understand that there're other aspects we have to consider too, just don't want to get a reply commenting academically good doesn't mean the school is good. πŸ™‚

Since you need to go through PV, the primary concern won't be \"which school is better academically\". Your first concern would be \"which school will offer you the opportunity to PV\"?

Apply for both schools. The one that offer you would be the better one. That should help you manage your expectations

My PV application is accepted in Mee Toh, so I'm thinking if I should still go ahead and apply PV for Holy Innocents.

Hi all, checking in. My DD born in 2013, we are staying in sengkang east, within 1km from mee toh, rivervale and compassvale. May i know what are the chances to get PV from these schools? Do these schools ballot for PV or via interview? My first choice would be meet toh, followed by rivervale and Compassvale.

                  :thankyou:
The PV application in Mee Toh has already been closed.
For Rivervale, I think it's first come first serve, so you should closely monitor their website and register once it's open.
I'm not sure about Compassvale, but I got a friend who didn't get the PV from the other two schools and managed to get it from Compassvale.

School’s role is only one part of the equation. That said, I don’t think the two schools you have shortlisted are that far apart. Plus, both have affiliation to secondary schools which can be a safety net for some people. Since Mee Toh has offered you PV already, why add another level of worry and stress by trying for another.
