All About Parent Volunteers (PV)

Will be very grateful if anyone can advise the PV with Rivervale Pri. I am residing 1-2km and I will like to enquire:
a) what are the criteria of being selected as PV by the school?
b) based on the past evaluation is balloting required for the Phase 2B for PV staying 1-2km from school?
c) I will like to enrol my child to NCPS that’s the most popular in my area and is within 1km but based on the past balloting it is too competitive and I wouldn’t want my child to feel my disappointment so will like to consider another school that’s quite close to the focus on academic and character building - Rivervale Primary.

Yes the letter is crucial evidence. If you somehow did not receive it by post, please remember to get an official copy from the general office. Don't leave it to the registration day itself, too scary.

Thanks for your advise. The school Admin said he will mail out the letter in Jun next year. He told me not to volunteer anymore as to give other people hours to clock.

The fastest reply got to volunteer.
In general, is the school obliged to give out 800 hours of voluntary work?
Is there a recourse for the parents if the school did not give out the sufficient hours?
Let say the parents only completed 38 hours due to the school giving out insufficient hours. Will the parents still get the letter?

Do keep a look out for the letter in June then.

The school is not obliged to provide the tasks nor hours if the PVs cannot click sufficient hours. But I do know most schools will try their best to find something for the PVs to do if the PVs themselves are keeping track and panic when the deadline draws closer and make known their situation to the school.

Those PVs who super blur and not keeping track, not proactive and chase the school for jobs...well the school can also assume they are not interested to continue.

At the end of the day, the minimum MOE requirement is 40 hours. Nothing less. So ya 38 or 39.5 hours will cut you out of phase 2B.

Can. There is no restriction. U are free to do as many as your time permits.

For my family, unfortunately, it has already almost impossible to give my daughter a SC status before P1 balloting. The best we can possibly get for her is a PR. We understand this will give her a great disadvantage competing with other SC kids, so hopefully we can target a right school and apply for a place of PV, a best school possible as a PR. Therefore, it is really appreciated if suggestions can be given on following questions to help us make a right decision.


1) Do we have to move close to the school we apply for PV? Or will this increase the possibility of getting a place of PV?
2) Does PR has an equal chance of getting a place of PV compared with SC?
3) Does PR even stand a chance if applying PV at a school like Raffles Girls' primary(anyone body knows the PR/SC ratios among all current students)? How about River valley primary?
4) What is the best school where a PR can stand a fairly good chance for a PV place? Any suggestion?

As a PR, there's no point targeting popular schools like Raffles Girls as even SC might not have the chance to ballot. Even if you can do PV, you would do it in vain and you would only waste your precious time which you could use to do PV somewhere else. You should really go through the balloting history and pick a few schools that you're comfortable with, then check whether they have PV scheme as not all schools have it.
