Hi all!


I'm a current j1 from NYJC taking BCME combination. I would like to clarify that even though school does start at 8.30 on assembly days (alternate days depending on level and all weds), some classes do start at or before 8am even though the combi is common (bmce in my case) so it depends on range of combis in the class and not necessarily individual. The time lessons end also depend on class and timetable, classes that end school earlier have lesser breaks etc and rare combis tend to end school earlier. School ends at 2.30 every Wednesday for both j1s and 2s. We run on a 2-week timetable which means timetable alternates every week. Feel free to ask any questions and ill try to answer using my personal experiences :rahrah:

1) someone asked about the cut-off point for NYJC, but was not answered yet. What is cut-off for non-affiliated students?
2) how big is the cohort/
3) roughly how many per cent are from the non-affiliated schools?

How is the culture like in NYJC? Since it is among the top non-IP JC, is the environment competitive? Are students or teachers pressured to perform? Is the school "unforgiving" to students who fall behind since they have to uphold their ranking? Are there systematic support given to students should they fall behind in performance?

The info u need about NYJC is available on page 117. Briefly, there are 2 affiliated schools: Chung Cheng High Main and Chung Cheng High Yishun.

COP for Arts is 7 and COP for Science is 6. As for the culture, I'll leave it to the current students to answer. My DS is still in primary school haha.

Why maximum 12 points permitted, for affliated students ?

Because 12 points minus away the following :-

a)
minus away 2 points, for passing or clearing GCE \"O\" level Higher Chinese, with a mininum / lowest C6 score grade or better,

b)
minus away 2 points, for clearing Cca, at Secondary 4,

c)
minus away 2 bonus points, for being an affliated student, from Chung Cheng High.

Thus, 12 - 2 - 2 - 2 equal to 6 points left, which then can meet the official COP of 6 points, for Science stream. Hence, can enter Nanyang Junior College.

If compare above scenario of an affliated student with initial, original Raw score of 12 points finally being reduced to a final, net score of 6 points, after minusing all above, against another scenario of a NON-affliated student with an original RAW score of 6 minus zero, for L1R5 : -
Between these 2 students, who actually have a HIGHER priority, to enter Nanyang JC, first ?

You are wrong.

As I said in my previous post, every student is only allowed 4 bonus points off, unless the student applies for CLEP. These four points can come from CCA, HMT or affiliation. For CCHMS/CCHY students, if they don't get 2 bonus points for their CCAs, they can still rely on affiliation to give them the 2 bonus points. Not all CCHY students take HMT. For those who don't take HMT, they will only have CCA and affiliation to give them maximum 4 bonus points.

Six bonus points can be awarded for students who apply for CLEP.

So, for CCHMS/CCHY students, the maximum points they can get for L1R5 is 10, not 12, if they want to get into NYJC (assuming COP of 6 points).

Student A who scores 6-0 will have a higher priority than Student B who score 10-4 since Student B will already have obtained his/her advantage with the 2 bonus points from affiliation.

So, for students who take HMT, to \"fully utilise\" the affiliation, they will have to apply for CLEP with the affiliated JC. Without affiliation, there's no way a student can have 6 bonus points.

Yeap it still work dat way, just dat no more A1 and A2 etc (my cohort was the last to use LEAPs 1.0)

That's why I said that for CCHY students who do not take HMT, they can still have potentially 6 bonus points if they apply to NYJC. For CCHMS/CCHY students who take HMT and do not perform that well, or they do not get 2 points from CCAs, they can use the 2 bonus points from affiliation.

The posting system will mix and match any possible bonus points (excluding LEP) for the applicant (which maximum is 4 no matter wat)

Then if the applicant ticked \"I want to offer CLEP/MLEP...\" and chose the LEP centres as 1st choice (not sure 2nd choice count anot) extra 2 bonus points will then be counted on top of the bonus points awarded earlier.
