      qms:
      phtthp:

For affliated \"O\" level students from Chung Ching High, what is the affliation Cut-off-point, to enter Nanyang JC ?

      Eg

If a Chung Ching High \"O\" level student scored 13 points for L1R5, can this affliated student still enter NYJC, for \"A\" level ?

Students are able to obtain bonus points through CCA, HMT and/or affiliation. However, unless you are applying for CLEP, you will only be able to get four (4) bonus points maximum. Hence, if the COP for NYJC is 6 and the student scores 13 for L1R5, the student will not be able to enter NYJC.

Thank you, qms, for kind explaination.

To clarify, does it mean for an affliated GCE \"O\" level student from Chung Cheng High, interested to enter \"A\" level Science stream at Nanyang JC with a Cut-off-point at 6 points (as an example, since this varies depending on each \"O\" level cohort or batch Cut-off-point), the maximum number of points this affliated student can score for L1R5 : is 12 points? Cannot exceed 12 points

Why maximum 12 points permitted, for affliated students ?

Because 12 points minus away the following :-

      a)
minus away 2 points, for passing or clearing GCE \"O\" level Higher Chinese, with a mininum / lowest C6 score grade or better,

      b)
minus away 2 points, for clearing Cca, at Secondary 4,

      c)
minus away 2 bonus points, for being an affliated student, from Chung Cheng High.

Thus, 12 - 2 - 2 - 2 equal to 6 points left, which then can meet the official COP of 6 points, for Science stream. Hence, can enter Nanyang Junior College.

Is above calculation, correct or wrong ? Thank you.

      Question #2
If compare above scenario of an affliated student with initial, original Raw score of 12 points finally being reduced to a final, net score of 6 points, after minusing all above, against another scenario of a NON-affliated student with an original RAW score of 6 minus zero, for L1R5 : -
Between these 2 students, who actually have a HIGHER priority, to enter Nanyang JC, first ?

        You are wrong.

As I said in my previous post, every student is only allowed 4 bonus points off, unless the student applies for CLEP. These four points can come from CCA, HMT or affiliation. For CCHMS/CCHY students, if they don't get 2 bonus points for their CCAs, they can still rely on affiliation to give them the 2 bonus points. Not all CCHY students take HMT. For those who don't take HMT, they will only have CCA and affiliation to give them maximum 4 bonus points.

Six bonus points can be awarded for students who apply for CLEP.

So, for CCHMS/CCHY students, the maximum points they can get for L1R5 is 10, not 12, if they want to get into NYJC (assuming COP of 6 points).

Student A who scores 6-0 will have a higher priority than Student B who score 10-4 since Student B will already have obtained his/her advantage with the 2 bonus points from affiliation.

So, for students who take HMT, to \"fully utilise\" the affiliation, they will have to apply for CLEP with the affiliated JC. Without affiliation, there's no way a student can have 6 bonus points.

Hmmm did yall count in the CCA bonus points? i.e. 2 points for A1 grade in CCA LEAPS point system and 1 point for A2 grade.

So a 6 points deduction can be done in: (assuming A1 in HMT and CCA record)
          HMT-----(2pts) + CCA (2pts) + LEP (extra 2) = 6pts OR
          Affiliation (2pts) + CCA (2pts) + LEP (extra 2) = 6pts

So not necessary to have affiliation to get 6 point bonus. (think the system still work dat way for LEAPs 2.0 system?)

Yeap it still work dat way, just dat no more A1 and A2 etc (my cohort was the last to use LEAPs 1.0)

Information on the LEAPs 2.0 fm MOE: (the bonus point thing is on page 3 šŸ˜„ )

That's why I said that for CCHY students who do not take HMT, they can still have potentially 6 bonus points if they apply to NYJC. For CCHMS/CCHY students who take HMT and do not perform that well, or they do not get 2 points from CCAs, they can use the 2 bonus points from affiliation.

So... basically this table summarises all the stuff

                https://s2.postimg.org/llr7umznt/Capture.png\">

The posting system will mix and match any possible bonus points (excluding LEP) for the applicant (which maximum is 4 no matter wat)

Then if the applicant ticked \"I want to offer CLEP/MLEP...\" and chose the LEP centres as 1st choice (not sure 2nd choice count anot) extra 2 bonus points will then be counted on top of the bonus points awarded earlier.

Source of table is from the 2018 JAE Booklet (which O Level ppl yall will receive the hard-copy of this book when ur results come out next yr) (https://www.moe.gov.sg/docs/default-source/document/education/admissions/jae/files/2018-jae-information-booklet.pdf)

                    Blessed and Happy:
How is the culture like in NYJC? Since it is among the top non-IP JC, is the environment competitive? Are students or teachers pressured to perform? Is the school \"unforgiving\" to students who fall behind since they have to uphold their ranking? Are there systematic support given to students should they fall behind in performance?

Im not going to answer the previous question as i dont think i know enough and dont want to misinform others. My personal experience in NYJC is great and i would say the culture is vibrant with friendly teachers. Personally haven't seen much bad competition between classmates, we study together and help others take notes during lectures when they are absent etc. We have many school events and happenings so the culture is not too stressful eg. Ice cream day such as free magnum twice a year šŸ˜› Well ventilated campus with plenty of tables n conducive library so pretty good environment to study. Pressure to perform i would say there is definitely indirect pressure on yourself especially if you are performing below average which will be evident on result slips which show percentiles (just like any other jc) but teachers do set difficult papers and have high expectations of us such as having us memorize extra optional information that other schools may not require. The standards and exam papers are getting significantly harder by the years tho... And regarding the last question like any jc those who perform below expectations would be retained although our retainee rate is not exceptionally high (<30 out of ~750 if im not wrong). Promotional criteria for ny is 2h2 passes and 1h1 pass excluding mt and pass in gp so basically need to pass close to all subs but the sch moderates results since our papers are q tough. Those that did badly for mid years and continual assessments were chosen to attend compulsory supplementary lessons before promos exams to help them clear promos. Tutors also prepare extra practices and are always open for consultations for all students. Anyway, if any parent here has a child waiting for Os results next yr, we have a jc experience programme soon so if you're interested look out for more updates on our sch fb page, website etc šŸ™‚
