Thanks, ksks!
Are you able to share any further info on the school eg. culture, teachers? And what are the school hours?
This article published by TJC in May 2017 summed up the culture quite well. Take a look.

In terms of school hours, it starts at 730am and ends about 3/4pm for most days with 2 days having CCA and one day will end early around 1pm. I understand at JC level, the class will start at 830am. -
Anyone commute from sengkang to TJC?is it tiring?thank you

May i know the class hours for IP year 1?

TJC across the house, or Cedar girls 50 minutes away?
TJC was 250
Cedar was 254
Dd 264
Is it worth it to take cedar?
Pls suggest. Urgent. Thanks -
If Tscore is 264 why not opt for RGS,NJC,SNGS if willing to travel .Cedar is also good but if willing to travel RGS,NJC,SNGS cant beat.if dont want to travel TJC is best option as just across.

Should consider RGS (IP)
From 2019 : RGS will shift to a brand, new campus. By then, your daughter will be Sec 2, in RGS. -

I imagine that your girl does not take Chinese and that is the reason why you don't want to consider Dunman High which is a very good school in the East. Your practical approach is really something to applaud.
I have 2 DS and were in a similar boat twice - send to nearby school or R*. There was pressure to apply to R* due to good scores. Both times I did not succumb. Took the practical route and never looked back. No regrets as both DS get lots of sleep- a rare commodity for sec school students these days.
Cedar IP leads to VJC in 4 years and VJC is also near enough to your place. Compared to TJC, personally, despite the attraction of a 5 min walk to school, I would prefer Cedar. Not because of the COP but because I think overall it has a better environment for secondary learning (a pure secondary school with good range of CCAs and no boys!). Also the attraction of being moving on to VJC is something worth thinking about.
Is it possible to think about how you could possibly lesson the transport time for DD to Cedar?
Now about all the other comments about RGS. It's clear that it's not a consideration for you? So won't go there. For us, pressure-cooker schools were a no-no and I am assuming you have similar reasons for not considering RGS.
Sorry did I confuse your further? -
Thank you for your responses. Yes, she took Malay. RGS is not an option due to the high fee for non citizen.
"despite the attraction of a 5 min walk to school, I would prefer Cedar…" —> this is the kind of feedback I’m looking for. Thanks again.
We finally put in Cedar. I may consider moving to somewhere nearby Cedar to lessen the transport time. -
Hi ungu,
TJC (IP) is co-ed; from Sec 1.
If dont like BGR distraction (just in case), safer to stick to Cedar. -
Just some sharing.
DD has been improving since P4. Prior to P4, she was not within top 25% (in level) but by the time she reached P6, she was 6th in level. Unlike most of her peers, she had no tuition/enrichment except a short 8-month stint at learning lab for her English. On 1st Oct Sunday, she had a very bad stomach flu and vomited non-stop. However, she endured and completed her Chinese, Science and Higher Chinese papers while under medication. She managed to get 26x+2.
Pt 1. It is very important to teach our children how to learn independently, strive for improvement and be able to deliver consistent quality results.
Pt 2. My dd is from an ordinary primary school. At the start of P5, her class has students of varying academic ability but collectively, their PSLE results outperformed the rest of the classes. A suitable environment (school, teacher, classmates) is very important.
Pt 3. We chose TJC primarily due to distance and the belief that it is a big enough platform for academic brilliant students to shine. We are mindful that DHS, NYGH etc has a significant proportion of GEP and PRC scholars which will contribute to their straight A results.
Pt 4. My dd is not the ra-ra type and she might \"drown\" in NYGH, RGS etc. While she has shown personal strength and maturity, she is rather introvert at this point in time. As such, we would rather she pursue her academic excellence in a more comfortable/relaxed environment.
Pt 5. While many assume by entering RGS/NYGH/DHS etc, the school will provide an excellent education and the students will get excellent results, I have always tell my DD that it is her own ability/character/strength that will bring honors to herself. Don't assume that by entering XYZ school, XYZ school will bring honors to her.
She's currently enjoying her well-deserved holiday and break while her NYGH/DHS/RI/RGS bound classmates have began taking IP1 tuition/enrichment lessons.
