Cedar Girls Secondary School

My fren DD scored 253 in last year psle results. Fall in love with cedar at the first sight during the open house. Did not manage to get in as the cut off is 254. Have to settle in TJC IP. She said it’s a far cry when comes to number of CCAs offered in TJC as it’s quite limited. Cedar is a big family. And also becos the cohort size is smaller due to limited intake in TJC, she can’t really have the secondary school feeling as many of the students are taller as they are in A level age group.

Can someone suggest which is good science book to make my DD read during this holidays for sec1 IP 2018.tkq

This year (2017), have a friend's P6 daughter, from a neighbourhood primary school, who scored 260.My fren DD scored 253 in last year psle results. At 260, although she qualify to get into Cedar (IP) track, but her daughter told her mom that she much prefer the safer, traditional route of O level, at Cedar. So she placed Cedar (O level), as her first choice school. She doesn't want Cedar (IP), not keen in IP programme. Although my friend prefer her to take IP, since no need to take any major \"O\" level exam come 2021, but her P6 daughter told her mom that she feel safer with the \"O\" level track, as Secondary school have more subjects coming in, 8 or 9 subjects coming in, & she has to manage her workload along with juggling with Cca, so in the end her mom relented.
Now just awaiting for this Thurs (21 Dec 2017) S1 posting news 9 am early morning, to confirm her posting in to 2018 Sec 1 Cedar (O) curriculum.
Last year (2016 psle batch, born 2004):-
Cut-off-point for
Cedar (IP) : 254 to 271
Cedar (O) : 250 to 271
Highest T-score admitted : 271

If u think is safer to go to a dual-track IP school, then take Cedar.TJC IP across the house, or Cedar girls 50 minutes away?
TJC was 250
Cedar was 254
Dd 264
Is it worth it to take cedar?
Pls advise. Urgent. Thanks -
Another friend’s 2017 P6 daughter, from a GEP primary school, with T-score 269, had also applied for Cedar. Her mom (my friend) wish to find out :-
For Sec 1 class allocation :
Are there one or two Sec 1 Top few classes, where Cedar Secondary
school place ( all the Geppers together with Top Mainstream students ) who scored (high end of 26x or 27x +) together, in the same Sec 1 class ? Thank you. -

No, there isn't. The girls are randomly mixed into the IP classes. My daughter says the lowest in her class got 252 and the highest 270+. The girl who got 252 entered IP via DSA Academic.Another friend's 2017 P6 daughter, from a GEP primary school, with T-score 269, had also applied for Cedar. Her mom (my friend) wish to find out :-

Correct. DD also said this too except for the sports class which is a class by itself.

Actually on the whole, if substantial hard work is put in, don’t think anyone will fall behind in the IP Track. The requirements for VJC is 2.8 on GPA score which I think most IP students can meet the entry criteria and the school gives supports and facilitate students in their academic works.

Spoken to my friend's P6 daughter.
She said never mind, is ok, \"O\" level learning track made her feel more secure.
She said since she is totally new to a Secondary school environment, also new to taking beyond just four primary school subjects (EL, HCL, MA, SC) like learning new subjects like History, Geography, Literature etc, it is safer for her to take \"one step\"
at a time, not to rush into IP. She prefer to \"warm up\" slowly, tune in to school culture, environment, teachers, gradually.
She said she will have initial, first 2 years to get used to Cedar culture, at the same time making friends with IP students from other Sec 1 classes as well, besides making new friends with new classmates from her 2018 O level new class.
At end of 2019 October Sec 2, she said if she do well in (2018 Sec 1 & 2019 Sec 2), and if by then prefer IP track, she is in a better position to assess the situation for herself, whether or not, IP is more suitable for her after all.
She said if she prefer IP by then, & if the school were to offer her to switch over, then is still not too late to take up IP offer from within the school, two years' later. -
with 269 psle score, it is highly unlikely she can’t cope in the IP curriculum. I think she should appeal to transfer to the IP track on 21 Dec itself. Why wait till end Sec 2…by then might be lagging behind the rest of the IP cohort in terms of breadth/depth of content learning.
