Those taking Higher Chinese in 2018 P5 next year, how come they said no need to buy Normal Chinese textbook, just buy Higher Chinese (HCL) textbook, will do ?


As HCL Supplementary lessons are conducted only once a week, during regular lessons, from Mon to Fri under normal Curriculum hours, aren't they using P5 Normal Chinese textbook to teach content ? So, we still need to buy Normal Chinese textbook, correct?

All along just use hcl text & activity book which are more in depth than ncl set. Some trs will distribute 笔记 for those ncl chapters not covered in hcl for self-study.

Definitely no need to buy the Chinese textbook and activity book. Just the Higher Chinese textbook and activity book are needed.

The once per week after school lesson a is not supplementary lesson. Higher Mother Tongue in the first place has more periods compared to Normal and Foundation MT. One of the reasons is that there are already more chapters to be completed and more techniques to learn.

If compared the books between Normal and Higher CL, some of the passages are the same, except that the latter has more paragraphs and higher wordcount. So, there's no need to buy Normal CL to teach similar content.

Children taking HCL are to have very good mastery of the subject and positive learning attitude. For chapters not covered in HCL, as what Vevey mentioned, it will be more self-directed.
But, if the children need assurance, they can still buy the Normal Chinese textbook or visit the Xuele website to read the 18 Chapters.

From the past PSLE threads, I gathered that science is the most difficult subject to do well in PSLE.


However, as I looked at DD1 time table, they have the most number of periods for EL whereas for SC, they only have 6 periods in a week. Is this the same in other schools too?

We have so much to cover for upper block science and I really wonder how teachers can teach effectively in that pathetic 3 hours per week. It should be mad rush to just finish teaching all the topics, disregarding if students understand or not. The impact is at the end of the day, many will not be able to do well in section B. I think this is one subject that our kids need to put in extra effort.

My DS timetable only has 5 periods of Science per week. I wonder how the teachers can cram the syllabus into so few hours. Even social studies has 3 periods.

Not possible to do a good job in teaching Sc With so little contact hours & large class size. Now we ustand why some parents hv to provide kids with tuition.

The Science Clinic at 2 Sin Ming Road. Taught by ex MOE teacher. Look for Mr. Vaithes, who's the teacher and owner. He's very detailed in his teaching and engaging with the kids. My friend recommended me and both our gals attained A for PSLE. My younger gal is attending there now for P5 science as well.
