scoliosis
-
Hello. A close fren was diagnosed similarly when she was a teen. Swimming (no need to be intensive, leisurely’s fine) at least 3 times a week, about 30min each time & she’s "cured". In the end, she never had to wear that body brace more than 1 week in her life. Speak to your doctor first.

The conditions and severity varies from person to person. I have scoliosis but I do not have to wear braces at all. In the past, I used to visit a chiropractor for adjustments. I find that it works. Physiotherapy is more to treat the pain when the muscle (?) over stretch or strain.

How bad is the scoliosis? And how old is she? My daughter has very mild scoliosis (10%) so doesn’t need to wear a brace. She was prescribed exercises to strengthen her muscles which she always forgets to do. I’m starting to do Pilates with her to see if that will help. She’s already 20 and we only noticed the curvature a couple of years ago.

I thought schools conduct scoliosis examination every year? She wasn't identified? -

She wasn't in Singapore school till Pre-U. And it's mild so it may not have been picked up earlier anyway. Not sure what the threshold for identifying is.slmkhoo:

I wasn't aware nor the scoliosis identified until I was in my late twenties, and in that time, I have completed my formal education as well as my NSF liability! Depending on the location and severity of the kink, it is still possible to miss out even if there's an examination every year. Or maybe, awareness of scoliosis wasn't the same with our medical officers before.ngl2010:

I wish I knew earlier. Could have gotten a downgrade from my NS liability :rotflmao: -
Both my DD1 and DD2 are currently under monitoring by HPB for scoliosis and they were identified through health screening.
As I understand, anything about 7 degrees from the forward bend test in school screening will be referred to HPB. HPB does a 6 monthly review with x ray and anything that goes into 20+ degrees will be referred to the hospital specialists. Brace or surgery would be considered depending on the severity.
At one stage I was more concerned about the potential risk of 6 monthly x ray than the scoliosis since my DDs were below 20 degrees. But the Dr at HPB that I spoke to was quite kind. She did some research and showed me the evidence that the risk is manageable so its somewhat assuring. -
Mine is 13 yrs old and curve is 25.
I tot physio therapy can stabilised the scoliosis condition…
Is badminton a gd exercise too? -
And what kind of stretching exercise is suitable? Prank? Sit n reach? Or?
