Firstly, do you have a logistic arrangement / plan if you are sending your kid to Chongfu? School bus? Public / private transport? You will have to figure a way to get to / fro school before the school becomes a viable option.hi parents, like to seek advice, if you are staying in admirately. I am a ex student of chongfu. will u prefer to put your kids in chongfu since is a good sch or you will find a sch near your hse(woodlands).
My main concern is the child might be very tired due to the distance. Especially gt to wake up at 6am while he sleep close to 11pm.
Whether you pick Chongfu or another school in Woodlands is ultimately your preference and what you feel is a good fit for your child. It sounds like you haven’t consider schools in Woodlands and are not familiar with the schools in the neighborhood. This should probably be your immediate homework before you narrow down your option to Chongfu only.
Finally, getting to bed is about discipline and adjustment. You can work backwards to figure out the time that the kid needs to be in bed and then adjust his sleep pattern from there.
2nd: I find that even if is a good sch, the child may not excel well in their studies. Meaning if he can excel, he goes anywhere also the same?
There are 2 main factors to consider - intrinsic and extrinsic. Intrinsic factors like genes, child’s character and attitude, etc will follow him wherever he goes. However, where he goes isn’t the same, and he may not get the chance to excel due to external environmental factors like make up / character of the school, opportunities etc. Hence, if you have B but not A, or A but not B, the probability of the child doing well reduces. Given that all parents believe their child is always the best (which means A is a given, rightly or wrongly), schools that can provide good environmental factors are always in high demand.
P/S: If you truly believe that ‘all schools are good schools’, where you place your child probably don’t matter. -

Hi preciousgal, I don’t know anything about Chongfu so I can’t advise on that.hi parents, like to seek advice, if you are staying in admirately. I am a ex student of chongfu. will u prefer to put your kids in chongfu since is a good sch or you will find a sch near your hse(woodlands).

But I can give u some general comments on Primary school issues.
My boy gotta wake up at 6am even though we live within walking distance on his primary school. Reason is, he takes very long to eat breakfast. And I insist he eats a full breakfast becos he rather play during recess. Your boy sleeps close to 11pm, there is no way he can continue to do that in primary school. U gotta work backwards, even if u manage to find a school next door that starts at 8am, what time he gotta wake up? It’s a matter of adjusting his body clock & how long he needs to get ready.
U believe if your child can excel, he goes any school also the same. This I agree. But, your child excelling in preschool now? Already reading & writing no problem? If that’s the case, then just choose any school near your house.
Whether Chongfu is worth the long commute (please find out how many minutes by school bus or ferry by car, whichever u plan to use)...that one u gotta ask Chongfu parents. U can also ask around your ex-classmates (are u still in touch??) why they put their kids there (if they did). -

Dear All
Like to seek your advice.
If I register for the pri sch that is about 700m away from my house, but if it get too popular and if worst case I lose the balloting, do I still stand a high chance for the sch that is just across my house?
For both sch, I will be under Phase 2C (no siblings, alumni, PV etc) and i'll fall under the first category of less than 1km right?
Balloting results will be out within the same day right?
I am looking at pri sch in Punggol. Any parent in punggol too?
I am staying in Punggol also, and i have dragon twins to register this july!!!! >.<
Mee Toh (within1 km, about 700m away) vs Edgefield Pri (across the road less than 200m), vs Horizon (within 1 km, about 700m away)
Last backup plan: Greendale :scratchhead: -
zac's mum:
Just to add on, even if Chongfu is a good school by some parents' standard, it doesn't guarantee anything. My cousins went there but couldn't cope well enough and in the end it didn't amount to anything. My advise is also to get a primary school near your house as long commute will take its toll in the long run. IMHO, it's not worth it, unless you're aiming for other aspects such as affiliation to secondary school, which Chongfu doesn't have.
Hi preciousgal, I don’t know anything about Chongfu so I can’t advise on that.preciousgal:

I wouldn't dare to dream about Mee Toh as i stay exceed 1 km and within 2 km, both Punggol View & Punggol Green are nearer to my place, any feedback on these 2? i have been monitoring past few years, think both also need ballot at 2C :yikes: -

I totally agree with galaxyraider. Have seen many friends rent house, do PV, grassroots etc just to get into a \"good school\"... end up the kid has learning issues... so sometimes we really have to believe \"if you have it, you have it\"... even affiliation may not happen if the kid can't perform to the COP set by the school.

Perhaps a better option is to put the kid in a nearby school, see the results then transfer to a more academic stressful environment if he/she can cope. -

While there's nothing wrong with this approach, it may not be workable. \"More academically stressful environment\" is more often than not, a code word for popular school.

Transfer is subjected to availability and typically, it's easier to transfer from a more popular school to a less popular school. -
Me too my number 1 for 2019 intake. Stress about registration for Kong hua. Anyone ???
-
floppy:
Of course, with any transfers, the more popular the school, the harder the fight. (but absolutely doable)
