My DS says there is no CA1 exam in his school and the school wants to give more time for teaching the subject and also next year they are merging to another school. dont know wat to do and whom to approach for this. because CA1 should be essential becos they need more tests to know their level and stands in order for them to face PSLE. please suggest how can i take it forward

CA1 is scheduled for Feb '18. That's in one month's time and is likely embedded in the school calendar. Don't think you can actually change anything now.

I think you'd be better off focusing on doing your own revisions/ testing rather than take on this battle.

UmaPraha, you can use past year paper to check if your child has graps the concept before moving on. If school don't have CA1, you can have it like \"home-CA1\".

          Since your son's primary school doesn't conduct any P6 CA1 :-
then just download free from internet yourself, some Top schools' past 4 years' P6 CA1 (eg from 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017), per subject (EL / MA / SC / Mother tongue), let him practise at home, simulate a mock CA1 test yourself, at home.

Time him under exam condition, from start time to end time. Before he start, clear his table from all sorts of distraction. Only put calculator, pencil case, stop watch / clock, on the table. When finish, you mark his papers.

For Maths, simulate PSLE test environment, at home. That is, let him practise Paper 1 before lunch, do Paper 2 after lunch, within the SAME day. Purpose ? To train your son, to get used to / familarise himself, under PSLE exam condition & guidelines.

          Why?
In those schools that do conduct P6 CA1, schools follow PSLE guideline.
ie. P6 students take Maths Paper 1 before recess, and Paper 2 after recess. Students take a short break at recess before attempt Paper 2, in case they are mentally exhausted, after tackle Paper 1. But, both Maths papers are taken, within the SAME day.

Why the need to test both papers at home, on the same day ?

Sometimes, when parents test their child at home Maths (both papers) on different days, the child may do very well. But if in school he is tested on the same day, after a short break, luckily not within minutes one paper immediately after another, the child ... may not do so well, because mentally exhausted, after the 1st paper. Then parent begin to wonder, why like that ? At home, can do well, but in school, dont know what happen .... :?

Also, u can test your son, by following the same sequence of sitting for PSLE exam.

PSLE typical sequence of testing P6 subjects, is as follow :-
After Oral, after composition and after Listening Compreh are over, for the Main papers, the sequence of testing is

          test English paper 2,

          followed by Maths,

          then Mother Tongue,

          then Science,

last paper is always Higher Mother tongue (if applicable)

I know that the SEAB has released only the PSLE tentative date.

Understand that the released of PSLE result date is not out. But usually it will happens end of Nov.

May I know any experienced mummy out there can advise when is the safe period to travel in Dec?

typically, PSLE results will be released 1 week after the official school holiday, 2X November.
Followed by 1 week registration of school exercise, end Nov.
Then school allocation will be out around, 20-21 Dec. Usually Thursday..Followed by Secondary School reporting on the next day.

So as soon as you have submitted your Sec School Selection, you are free to go.

Do you buy the exam papers from top schools to let your child practise? May I know where to get them?
                    Thanks.
