St Hilda's Primary
-
Hi everyone,
My son is due for P1 registration in 2018. I am thinking if i should try to register him at St Hilda's Primary, i am staying within 1km. I know that St Hilda's is a very good school but am not too sure if its suitable for my son. Would appreciate if i could be advised on the below qns:
1) My son always have problem controlling his emotions ( excitement, angry, sad) hence sometimes will be more attention in class. I would like to ask if any parents knows if the allied educators and support for kids with behavioral problems is strong in St Hilda's?
2) is the class or school environment stressful for the kids and also the parents?
3) I hope to place my son to a school that is conducive for learning, without unnecessary stress and with good teacher support. As Junyuan Pri and Tampines Pri is also within 1 km of my house, which one of these three schools would be more suitable?
Any advice or thoughts are welcome!
Thx in advance.

my 2cents
- b/w Tampines and Junyuan, do you have a preference? Because if you miss SHPS at 2C, then likely will have to go for JYPS since TPS typically fills up at 2C. We were in the same spot 5 years ago, and took a gamble balloting for SHPS. 70+ applicants for 30+ spots.
about your son...unless he has been diagnosed, to me it sounds like a typical 6-7 yo boy? we had a pretty rough year with my DS in P1 this year, I had so many calls from the FT. So yes, the school is very supportive. P1 trs are especially patient, I feel. SHPS is a big school and they have a lot of resources. It might seem a little impersonal, though.
as for the environment...I see some parents in my DS class talking about enrichment classes, assessment books etc. My kids don’t have any other than MT tuition. This year they did away with CA for P3-P5 and I can tell you it’s such a load off my shoulders. P1 only had exams at the end of the year and only a small test (of which they had several practices). I feel the trs do give a lot of work but the work is marked quickly and returned to the kids. Whether it’s stressful, I feel it depends on you
i can’t comment on the CL part though, but based on the discussion in the chat group, seems like they do a lot.
and JYPS is merging with EVPS in 2019. Their P1 intake next year will increase. Not sure if this will affect your decision in any way. -
Hi parents,
would like to find out more about streaming in SHPS…understand that there is a streaming at end of P2, may I know how does the school determines the classes in P3 (ie. based on the math result or math+english result?) is there anymore streaming thereafter?
From curious mummy… -
can’t remember how it was done at the end of P2, i think only the last 2 classes P3s are the HA ones, the rest are mixed.
at the end of P4 there is subject based banding, to determine if the child sits for standard or foundation subjects. there is also GEP (screening at P3).
if i am not mistaken, at P5, they have GEP, HA mainstream, then banded for subjects (Math?). -

dear parents, i am trying to find out how to volunteer at GRC to be elegible for Phase 2B registration. I googled a news about a stricter policy for this... http://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/education/stricter-primary-1-priority-rules-for-grassroots-workers
may I know which GRC should I volunteer if I want to send my kid to St Hilda's. Thanks! -

From what I understand, You’d only able to use such priority in the constituency you live in. As such, where you serve does not matter.dear parents, i am trying to find out how to volunteer at GRC to be elegible for Phase 2B registration. For example: I can be serving in Bedok while I’m staying in Tampines. However, 2B will only allow me to apply for schools in Tampines and not Bedok. -
