For those merged JCs like Anderson, Meridian, wondering how they going to teach the A-level students ?

      eg

Since Anderson merged with Serangoon cohort : for Science stream, are they going to teach at the original faster pace of Anderson, or at a slightly slower pace now, after merging ?

What kind of teaching pace, are they going to pitch at ?

(the same question apply to Meridian / Tampines merge)

IMHO, the 3-point gap is not that big to warrant any changes. The JAE bonus points are already contributing up to 4-pt difference between students within the same JC. Who knows, the teachers in MJC & TPJC might have been giving lessons of similar standard to their pupils in the past and hence the merging is not going to affect much. However, it's the ability of the majority students to handle the actual A level exam that will make a difference to the JC's performance.
On the other hand, EJC teachers might have a greater headache on how to strike a balance in teaching the IPs and the JAEs.
      Their gap seems even bigger.

Potential gap between JAE and IP students can happen in all JCs with IP like RI, HCI, VJC, NJC, TJC, EJC, SJI, ACSI

Can we safetly declare that NYJC is officially Singapore top 4 jc based on COP by beating NJC in 2 consecutive years? I think we must give them credit for that, an impressive rise n improvement beating many traditional long history established jc or IPJC. They don't hv the IP feeder school but manage to rise to the among the top, kudos to them.

Well, nothing wrong to say that NYJC is among the top 4 JCs based on this COP.

To be specific, we can rank NYJC as the top 4 JCs but for the ‘O’ level students only.

Someone posted this, looks correct so far.

based on above listing, Yishun JC is the last JC with 20 as Cut-off-point.

if a JAE student score 18 or 19 points, then Yishun JC is the only one that this pupil can qualify.
If stay around North like Ang Mo Kio, Toa Payoh, Bishan, travelling time still ok.

But imagine if live in the east like Tampines , Pasir Ris or in the west like Jurong, Boon Lay ... how to go to Yishun JC, so far ?

The reason why I singled out EJC is that the IP COPs of its 3 sec schs are 257, 252 & 252.
Compare it with another JC with IP:
VJC IP COPs for the 2 sec schs are 254 & 252.
EJC JAE cop is 10 & 11 for sci & arts, resp.
              VJC JAE cop is 6 & 8.
So the gap between EJC & its JAE is bigger.

To summaries, all JC Cop drop across the board is due to increase intake of all the JC school due to the merging of 8 JC and there isn’t lots of 3-5 pointers to filled up all the TOP 3 JC and thats where Domino effect comes in for the rest of JC. You must consider that the whole of 2017 cohort JAE student belong to the groups which are >11% and above in their PSLE result 5 yrs ago and even Raw score of 8 also receive EESIS bursary from MOE for Independent school which is awarded to TOP 5% of the cohort. That’s explain why all the JC have their Cop drop.

My child who score Brilliant result which qualify her with ease to choose all JCs of her choice and that was a nice headache to have when deciding her choice for JC.

But in the end, she doesn’t opt for the No.1 JC as we feel that a good environment, the school vibes without Eltism Aura hanging in the air and niche programme the JC offer which my child feel comfortably studying in and progress thru for the next 2 years of her JC life.
And as parent, we are happy and glad our child have make a right choice.

(PS If you guys are wondering which JC my child posted to, your guesses is as good as mine. For those who have known me in other secondary sch chat in this forum. You would have guess it. It’s the JC which enjoy all day sea Breeze)

I'm somewhat bemuse why are we so obsessed with which is top jc, which is top sec sch, which sch is better than which sch? We don't even have the exact figures of their enrolment size, affiliation figures, A level results, etc to make an apple-to-apple comparison. Much less label which cohort as performing better or worse than previous cohort.

Does that 1 to 2 points difference make so much of a difference that we can label them as a student from top JC or mid-tier JC, and in the process infer them as possessing of certain caliber superior/inferior to others?

A large fraction of these 2-5 pointers had PSLE 230s - 250s, relegating many of them to \"mid-tier\" sec schools. Now they enter the \"top\" JCs and mix with the PSLE 250s-280s and realise they are mostly on par with each other.

It's good we share the COPs of the schools for parents who wish to know/have a gauge if their child can enter the school or not. But to compare and rank schools based on COPs which differ by only a couple of points is really absurd.
I totally agree with you but whenever someone tries to boast about cop (and I wonder why it's always from that same jc), we have to get our ideas across to prove them wrong and hope to stop their obsession.

I have 2 children who graduated from JC - one is from IP, the other is from JAE.

Speaking from my experience only (others may think differently), there is a marked difference in the academic calibe of both IP and JAE and it shows at JC level. JAE students need a lot of hardwork, determination and peservance to catch up with IP students.
