Depending on the schools, there may be recreational CCA's (just for fun) as well as developmental CCA's (training to get into school teams). So unless your child is aiming to excel in some sport/ music (in which case they'd likely be enrolled in external classes anyway), there will be some CCA trials for them to join the sport/ club. Yes, there may be trials if demand exceeds supply but these are usually at very basic levels.Of these 5 schools, which of these would you choose for your 2019 P1 dragon baby living in Dakota?
CHIJ Katong (Phase 2B) - One parent is Catholic
Opera Estate (Phase 2C)
Tanjong Katong (Phase 2C) - Am aware it's afternoon session for P1 and P2; and at holding site in Bedok for 2019
Canossian Convent (Phase 2C)
Haig Girls School (Phase 2C)
We are PR and do not live within 2km of any schools. Ideally we want a school with a holistic attitude towards education, a friendly parent community, a good selection of CCAs - especially sport and music, and a diverse student body (if possible).
Some schools also have enrichment programs in which kids from the schools can join (for a fee) to learn sports eg. table tennis, badminton, wushu, etc before they are old enough to join the CCA programs (usually P3 onwards).
Some of the CCA's available in those schools you mentioned:

By the way, all primary school timetables include music lessons (once a week), art lessons (once a week), and physical education (2-3 times a week). So there’s no need to be unduly worried that your child is not getting an all-rounded education.
For P1 and P2, they also have compulsory PAL lessons in their timetable. This is extremely fun for the kids and they rotate thru various types of activities. More about that here: https://www.schoolbag.sg/story/programme-for-active-learning -
Thank you Zac’s mum and Zappy for your replies.
I didn’t know that sports CCAs would be like that; so thank you for sharing. -
Cannosa Convent will go co-ed next year (2019) and will be renamed to Cannosa Catholic Primary School. If you’re looking specifically for a girls school, then this may not be your school of choice.
However, you do qualify for Phase 2B since you’re Catholic. -
Hi hi!
I am planning to put my Daughter in Maha Bodhi School in 2019. I am staying more than 2km from the school.
May I check if I have a referral letter from a monk, which phase should I submit/apply for registration? And when do I need to get the referral letter ready?
Did anyone had this “path” / journey before?
Appreciate your kind advice. Many thanks...

Best to ask the school directly, since yours is a very specific scenario.Hi hi!

Unless the monk is from SBF / affiliated with the SBF, his referral letter has the same validity as asking me to write a letter for you, ie none. That means, you will be placed in the free-for-all Phase 2C if taking such an approach.Hi hi!

Refer to SBF FAQ:
How do I go about obtaining the Letter of Introduction for Phase 2B registration?
Parent could obtain from SBF a blank Letter of Introduction which is printed on SBF Letterhead, fill-in all columns and arrange for it to be signed by a Introducer. Submit the completed Letter of Introduction together with a copy of child’s birth certificate to SBF before the deadline.
Maha Bodhi School has been instructed by SBF not to accept any letter issued by other institutions with the exception of the aforesaid SBF’s Letter of Introduction.
-
Dear all, with the conversion of Canossa Convent to mixed cohort, which would have a higher chance under phase 2c for singaporean citizen, living in Kallang area?
- geylang methodist primary school
- canossa convent (which will be converted to mixed school)
- stamford primary
so far my encourntered with gmps has not been pleasant and the feedback from parents have been mixed so now thinking of second option. -

Canossa Convent and Stamford have always been \"bao jiak\" for SC (any distance) in Phase 2C. Doubt that will change in the near future.Dear all, with the conversion of Canossa Convent to mixed cohort, which would have a higher chance under phase 2c for singaporean citizen, living in Kallang area?

Canossa Convent conversion would probably have no significant impact on registration. If anything, it at least guarantees the school's survival in the short term (by admitting some boys to make up for the shortfall in girls). -
