      It’s a boy.

It would be blatantly unfair for the school to recognize him as an alumnus for his future progeny’s registration. Maybe the school will have a black mark against his name to bar him from joining as alumni member.

why is there a need for MOE to wait for the appeal? they have every right to transfer the child out immediately. the parents are guilty of cheating. appeal based on whether the child’s results?

not only should the child be transferred out, he/she should not be given the right to enjoy phase 2A in future.

            phtthp:

the affliation aspect is important. Once enrolled into affliated Catholic High, can ensure at least smooth ten years, from p1 to sec 4 (o level).
This is not true for Catholic High and other Catholic schools in general. The cut off point for affiliated primary school is 240, which is still quite high. Same case with SJI. My friend's sons were in SJI Junior and both failed to continue to SJI.

Of these 5 schools, which of these would you choose for your 2019 P1 dragon baby living in Dakota?

CHIJ Katong (Phase 2B) - One parent is Catholic
              Opera Estate (Phase 2C)
Tanjong Katong (Phase 2C) - Am aware it’s afternoon session for P1 and P2; and at holding site in Bedok for 2019
              Canossian Convent (Phase 2C)
              Haig Girls School (Phase 2C)

We are PR and do not live within 2km of any schools. Ideally we want a school with a holistic attitude towards education, a friendly parent community, a good selection of CCAs - especially sport and music, and a diverse student body (if possible).

Hi since one parent is Catholic, you can actually use phase 2B for Canossian Convent Pri. It is a Catholic school.

The Catholic schools each have an affiliated secondary school. That would take away the stress from PSLE.

Sorry I don’t know anything about the culture or CCAs etc of the 5 schools. I’m not sure how it is at most primary schools nowadays, but in my boy’s school there’s a lack of CCA places for all and sports are always oversubscribed. So don’t assume that you will get to pick a CCA. If anything, it’s the other way round: the sports coaches will talent spot and pick the best potential 🤷 If you really want your girl to learn sport or music, best is to take external lessons.

Depending on the schools, there may be recreational CCA's (just for fun) as well as developmental CCA's (training to get into school teams). So unless your child is aiming to excel in some sport/ music (in which case they'd likely be enrolled in external classes anyway), there will be some CCA trials for them to join the sport/ club. Yes, there may be trials if demand exceeds supply but these are usually at very basic levels.

Some schools also have enrichment programs in which kids from the schools can join (for a fee) to learn sports eg. table tennis, badminton, wushu, etc before they are old enough to join the CCA programs (usually P3 onwards).

Some of the CCA's available in those schools you mentioned:

By the way, all primary school timetables include music lessons (once a week), art lessons (once a week), and physical education (2-3 times a week). So there’s no need to be unduly worried that your child is not getting an all-rounded education.

For P1 and P2, they also have compulsory PAL lessons in their timetable. This is extremely fun for the kids and they rotate thru various types of activities. More about that here: https://www.schoolbag.sg/story/programme-for-active-learning

Thank you Zac’s mum and Zappy for your replies.

I didn’t know that sports CCAs would be like that; so thank you for sharing.

Cannosa Convent will go co-ed next year (2019) and will be renamed to Cannosa Catholic Primary School. If you’re looking specifically for a girls school, then this may not be your school of choice.

However, you do qualify for Phase 2B since you’re Catholic.
