Thank you very much for your helpful reply. We currently just joined another church since we got back. Is there a timeline to switch to a Methodist church to be eligible for phase 2b?
Hi if u are a Methodish church member, then u can apply under phase 2B. Otherwise, you will have to apply under phase 2C. There is no way to increase your chances at this late stage, aside from renting a place <1km of both ACS. The good thing for you is the rental market is very cheap for tenants right now. Just be aware of the 30-month law set by MOE and sign the necessary contract to be safe.Sarahbelle:
Hi I'm keen to explore ACS as an option for my son however the problem is he is born in the dragon year for 2019 admission. I'm also an alumni from one of the top 3 primary schools in Singapore however I'm more keen for him to attend this school as I believe it offers more options for IB education and also for their sports curriculum.
May I know how to increase my options for getting him in aside from moving near 1km from the school (if I don't shift will I stand a chance)?
P.s. please bear with me as this is still very new for me as I was living overseas for a very long time and website information is very vague regarding the phases.
What u can do is to apply to your alma mater at phase 2A first, then monitor on the last day of phase 2B/2C to see the odds of getting a place in either ACS. Withdraw and switch school if got firm potential. That's the usual strategy.
And even then, it seems there is balloting within 1km in phase 2b? -

If you are already with another church (like I was and still am), just trust God with integrity to grant you your wish under phase 2C. That's what I did. If it's really meant to be, He will send His angels to select your son's ballot ball like He did for my son. -
Dear parents, I would like to enquire, for phase 2b, must BOTH parents be members of the Methodist Church?

Dear all,
I am new here. My son was born in 2013. We are doing GRL at RC and fullfilled the requirement already. We are evaluating whether to move house to anywhere for school.
As we are within 1km to Mee Toh, I am thinking if move, I would like to make sure it is 100% secured in 2B. Would ACSJ 1km area a good choice?
Secondly, shall I move to somewhere that is within 1km to both ACSJ and ACSP and wait and see?
thanks for the advice! -

I’m confused. Does fulfilling your GRL requirement near Mee Toh allow you to apply for a school outside your current GRC?Dear all,

If your phase 2B GRL status is truly transferable to anywhere in SG, then yes <1km for ACSJ is quite safe.
Best is to move <1km of ACSJ, ACSP and SJIJ. You will have a choice of 3 schools, definitely will get one of these without balloting. If not phase 2B then phase 2C. -
I don't think there is anything else you can do. All other ways of increasing your chances require more time than you have. I think the information on MOE's website is quite detailed.

It very much depends on demand and supply. About 4 yrs ago, a friend of mine was able to register her son in the Junior school (Cairnhill) even though she was in Phase 2C (no affiliation, living more than 2km away, no balloting). I'm not sure that can happen every year. -
slmkhoo:
It is definitely getting more popular every year since then. ACSJ has since moved across the road to Winstedt Road by the way (the former Monk’s Hill Secondary campus). IMO it’s being managed very well by the current lady principal who was well-loved during her previous term at Fairfield Pri.I don't think there is anything else you can do. Balloting at <1km phase 2C for my DS Tiger year. -

I don't think you can register in a school outside your current constituency if you want to make use of GRL route in Phase 2B. For Phase 2C, out of the 3 schools in the area (ACPS, ACJS and SJIJ), only SJIJ is relatively safe if you move within 1 km from the school. ACPS is the most popular among them so your chance there would be the lowest. It's not impossible but it's high chance that you will go through the nerve-wrecking balloting.Dear all,

If you can't decide yet, just get a place in the golden triangle which is within 1km from all 3 schools. -

I have read through this thread since page 40 ... and I kind of don’t understand why it was so drama like in the registration stage... last min withdraw & register again needs so well planned and luck...
I think I cannot manage that properly so thinking to confirm one school first to register
The more choices I have , maybe I will be more struggling to choose -

Anyway, I'm more like you, aim only for 1 school and prepare 1 backup school just in case. No drama. No withdrawal and re-registration. Safe the trouble.
