Plan to approach MP… do you all directly tell the MP the purpose of why you wan to be a community leader (which is obviously for P1 registration)

i’ve just approached the chairman of my NC and sadly to say, he said it’s too late for my child born in 2014.

Different GRC have a different timeline to qualify as Exco.
Let’s just say my GRC has super duper popular schools and he said i need to be in GRL at least 3yr
        2021 - primary 1
2020 - registration in june and must be in exco for 2nd yr
2019 june - end of 1yr in exco
2018 june - start of 1yr in exco
2017 june - start of 1st year as observer

          That’s the usual timeline.
You have to be in exco -2years from registration.

should i just take a risk and join ?

The -2 years GRL from registration is a PA policy. Not possible to discount.

However, in some GRO, the waiting time from observer to exco member status may be shorter than a year. Some exco may be more willing to confirm you than others, if you are *ahem* well-connected or if they are desperately short of people.

I agree with Floppy, there are so many different styles of management.

Some GROs is so short of people that they can offer you Exco position up front without the need of being an observer.

Some welcome members who are looking for benefits as the seniors can hands off and sit back to clock outreach while the new birds do all the hard work for the next 2 years.

Some don’t even want members who are looking for benefits as the seniors feel that the new members may not have passion to serve and will not benefit the residents in the long run.

So many things to consider and so many possibilities…

MOE only recognises GRL from PA (People’s Association), not PAP / WP / SDP / RP etc.

In theory, PA GRL are not related to any political party. In theory lah!

PA is the one that is issuing the recommendation letter for the GRL, so if you are not part of PA GROs then you are not entitled to the letter. Hope this helps.

                        Dear patents,

i have one urgent question regarding the grassroot leader certificate. My son is going to apply P1 registration this year- aiming at P2B.
i am living in one RC belong to Tangong pagar GRC there i have served as grassroot leader for 2 years.
I am planning to move to another place so that my son can apply for a better school, which is in another GRC .
Have done some study via this forum understand the application process for GRL certificate is going to start from early May.
in such case, that i have to change my address by that time. May i know who should i approach to assist on changing the address on the certificate - have checked on GRL connect, seems there is no place stating my home address. is it automatically linked to my IC address ? i will go to police station ask for changing the address on my IC after i moved. However, if the address has to be changed via RC manager ,then i may need give him sufficient time to change accordingly .Just wondering what and how long is the process going to take ? i have tried to ask our RC ppls, seems they are too busy -never come back to me on this. Any one has similar experience or can share something to me ? thanks very much .
