All About Active Community Leaders

if i intend my child to participate in the 2020 primary school admission exercise, is it timely for me to start the process to become an active community leader? I know it takes around 3-6 months to be endorsed as an active community leader and after that you need 2 years of service. Or do you need 2 years of service from the time you started the process (including the time you were an observer)
meaning,
observer time + confirmed community leader time must be 2 years at time of the start of the primary school exercise?
or
confirmed community leader time must be 2 years at the time of the start of the primary school exercise?
:thankyou: -

You have to be confirmed by July 2018 to qualify for 2020 registration, which means you have to hurry as you are running out of time.

Plan to approach MP… do you all directly tell the MP the purpose of why you wan to be a community leader (which is obviously for P1 registration)

i’ve just approached the chairman of my NC and sadly to say, he said it’s too late for my child born in 2014.
Different GRC have a different timeline to qualify as Exco.
Let’s just say my GRC has super duper popular schools and he said i need to be in GRL at least 3yr
2021 - primary 1
2020 - registration in june and must be in exco for 2nd yr
2019 june - end of 1yr in exco
2018 june - start of 1yr in exco
2017 june - start of 1st year as observer -

should i just take a risk and join ? -

The -2 years GRL from registration is a PA policy. Not possible to discount.floppy:

However, in some GRO, the waiting time from observer to exco member status may be shorter than a year. Some exco may be more willing to confirm you than others, if you are *ahem* well-connected or if they are desperately short of people. -
I agree with Floppy, there are so many different styles of management.
Some GROs is so short of people that they can offer you Exco position up front without the need of being an observer.
Some welcome members who are looking for benefits as the seniors can hands off and sit back to clock outreach while the new birds do all the hard work for the next 2 years.
Some don’t even want members who are looking for benefits as the seniors feel that the new members may not have passion to serve and will not benefit the residents in the long run.
So many things to consider and so many possibilities…
