DD's SA1 results is back
P4 to P5
Eng : 81 drop to 69
MT: 70 drop to 66
Sci : 66 to 73.5
Maths : 72 drop to 41
Really caught me by surprise. Didn't expect her to fail Maths when she been coping well with her 1st CA1 and normal practice paper.
Sigh... don't know if she can improve for SA2. Was still thinking of go DSA next year. -
I guess getting some ideas during ptm on how is the kid faring among the rest at the same level may be helpful.

That's pretty drastic even for the P4 -> P5 drop.

I agree - should talk to the teacher to find out which part is the one causing problems & then focus on that. Should be just 1 to 2 sections which need fixing to bring back to her usual levels. -
Zappy:
she says ratio was taught for 3~4 lessons and during the exam, there are quite a number of ratio questions (about 20 marks). she is still not very familiar with ratio. her tutor was shocked also. cos during the lesson, she can cope well with the practice paper. even for class practice paper, she has been scoring almost full marks. when tutor goes through the SA1 paper with her, it seems like she didn't read the questions well. will need to talk to her again, if the word 'exam' got her panic.

@ dylanmummy2003 Guess u can get her to use highlighters, circle impt key words of qn she's gotta work out for answers, etc.
I find it impt to teach her apportion her time for diff section of exams (MCQ, short qns vs OE/long qns), so she knows how to allocate more time for the latter. -
Estéema:
thanks! will get her to use the highlighter method. for their maths paper, paper 1 (MCQ/Short Qn) and paper 2 (OE), is split. they have a break btw the 2 papers.@ dylanmummy2003 Guess u can get her to use highlighters, circle impt key words of qn she's gotta work out for answers, etc.

Yep, for not reading questions propely, that can be practised.

The break between the 2 Maths papers is PSLE standard. I believe all schools will start practising that from P5 onwards. -

Hi phtthp,
Some cried, because they had failed P5 SA1 Maths / Science.MrsKiasu:
poor thing, maybe they didnt know that it is quite 'normal' for a drop.
Guess we know in advance so not much shock. on a lighter note, my gal told me her kaki strategise how to present the papers to parents to manage shock
Others cried, because their grade dropped from 90+ (P4 SA2) to 60+ (P5 SA1)
How many marks drop is considered \"normal\" for:
- English
- Maths
- Science
Just an average mean score
