Any recommendation for good writing tutor or EL tutor?
For P5/6. -
Serena Greenhouse. My DCs were there. Their writing improved greatly as the teachers taught them writing skills explicitly. I remember my DC telling me about learning how to expand a moment etc They do not have many classes so may not have vacancies. One of my neighbours contacted the centre recently but there was no vacancy for her child’s level.

When is the best age to start creative writing? Is it necessary to complete till p6 if one start from p2?

I do agree with SM wrt English Creative Writing, that there’s no necessity to rush into CW classes.
The young ones need to establish their basics in Grammar, Vocab, read lots. Once they’re older & ustand storyline, shld let them learn proper writing structure & how to build sensible storyline, etc JMHO -
Joy of Learning 111:
There are different approaches with some commonalities. For lower primary, the focus is mostly on helping the children to gain basic language skills and proficiency in descriptive writing. For upper primary, the focus is more on narrative; this usually entails a plot mountain with introduction, rising tension, climax and resolution. For both levels, creative writing should be taught as an iterative process with plenty of rewriting and refinement.Bluestar86:
Hi Joy of Learning111,
Would you be all to share if there is any structure to teaching primary school children creative writing. It is essential to have many good or bombastic words in the compo to score good grades? Also, do you conduct lessons for primary school children and at which level? Thanks.
Bombastic or purple prose is a big no. Such over-the-top language draws excessive attention to itself often to the point that the reader loses the thread of the content. Creative writing should be content-led, with vocabulary playing a supportive role only. Unfortunately, many tuition centres, teachers and tutors try to disguise their lack of ability to teach creative writing by resorting to the encouragement of bombasticity (I just made up this noun but it seems plausible).
Good words, however, are essential. By ‘good’ I mean words that are appropriate, precise and effective. For instance, it can be as simple as writing ‘wolfed down’ instead of ‘ate quickly’ or ‘sheepish’ instead of ‘embarrassed’.
Yes, I conduct lessons for primary school children at all levels. I will shortly send you a pm.
Hi, can you pm me your contact too? thanks -
My child is not a bookworm but still okok reads once in awhile… Anyone have good books to recommend that will help with writing? Does not have to be enrichment, can be a good storybook too. TIA

How about those storybooks which are “choose your own adventure” type? I mean those where the storyline goes “what do u think happens next? If u think A happens, turn to page X; if u think B happens, turn to page Y”.
This kind of storybook encourages a child to encounter & think about various possible next case scenarios. Hopefully this will help in his/her creative writing. -

I remember reading those books where I had to record my adventure with a pencil on the book to remember how many items I have in my bag etc. Do they still have these choose your adventure books? I could not find any at Popular..Terryy:

In any case, they are available for online sale from Book Depository. Not costly: https://www.bookdepository.com/Space-Beyond-Choose-Your-Own-Adventure/9781933390031?ref=grid-view&qid=1530604774819&sr=1-9#_
