I thought it’s logical to increase no. of places? Nothing to hide or what…every Dragon year babies will have more space and MOE knows. Look at birth rate for Dragon year and they just plan accordingly. Logic…

MOE look at the total number of available slots, which is enough for the total number of Dragon kids.
i.e. the strain is still on the so called \"branded\" schools which now face more competition with increased demand. -
since Bukit Timah primary increased one extra class (from 180 to 210 students), parents with SC children targeting to enter (Nanyang, MGS, Henry park) primary under phase 2C less than 1 km balloting, can proceed to ballot.
in the event failed to ballot in :-
Bukit Timah primary can be a safe backup school this year, since one more additional class opened, to absorb SC kids failed to ballot into hot, popular schools, staying under Bukit Timah zone. -
What The:
the branded schools didn't increase intake...meaning those still aiming for them will face balloting at 2A for some.

MOE always said all schools are good schools...so there are more vacancies now.
I remember back in 2006, it was really madness when son registered for p1. even secondary schools increased 1 extra class. -

I beg to differ. Logically speaking, there are more than sufficient total places all across island, for all the babies. There are plenty of neighborhood schools in far flung areas that have empty seats not filled up, year after year. So why does MOE need to create more places?
They don’t have to - they are just being nice. For political reasons or not, unknown. -
zac's mum:
Wonder what is the reason for the reduce in intake, mostly popular schools above. Some schools have cut their intake:
- Ang Mo Kio Primary School: 210 reduced to 180
- St Anthony’s Pri: 240 reduced to 210
- Radin Mas Pri: 240 reduced to 210
- St Margaret’s Pri: 210 reduced to 200
- Montfort Junior: 150 reduced to 120
- Canberra Pri: 240 reduced to 210
- Pei Chun Pri: 330 reduced to 300 -

key question puzzling, is :

for this year 2018, dragon year cohort (for 2019 P1 intake, born 2012) : an extra of 2600 new vacancies had been created for P1 admission
But how about subsequent year P1 registration, after this year dragon cohort admission, ie. for 2020 P1 intake (born 2013) ?
will these 2600 vacancies be removed after this year (2018) registration exercise, or still remain permanently, for 2020, 2021, 2022, etc P1 intake ?
if remove : motive is clear- that means 2600 vacancies created, just to tackle dragon year born children.
But, if still remain : is it for political reason that purposely create 2 thousand more vacancies, so as to allow more PR & foreigner children, to study in Sg ? -
Don’t need to politicize every announcement la.
Go to singstat to check.
After dragon year, there’re the Sg50 babies and subsequently the sg51 babies. All have huge numbers.
If I may offer any guesswork, the 2600 is catered to these 3 years of babies, at least.phtthp:

based on the above list that show names of schools, that expanded by extra 1 or 2 more P1 classes :-
the branded schools didn't increase intake...meaning those still aiming for them will face balloting at 2A for some.
MOE always said all schools are good schools...so there are more vacancies now.
.
noticed that majority are ordinary, neighbourhood primary schools ?
For popular, hot (GEP / SAP / Affliated mission) primary schools : there is NO increase in extra P1 class.
Hence, balloting under Phase 2B, 2C continue to be very intense this year, for popular schools, this being dragon-year cohort admission. Only thing is because now no need to witness balloting anymore, since no need to go down school premises, so the \"pressure\" during balloting is lesser felt : except wait for that important balloting sms, from MOE. -
Question: There will be P1-IS online registration and it starts from 30 Jul 2018. But whereas if personally go down to sch to register is only from 31 July 2018. Why is there a difference of 1 day?
And with the online registration, will the school still be able to provide info to parents as to how many applications has been received if parents are at the school on 31 July & 1 Aug?
Any kind souls able to help?? Thanks…
