2018 P1 registration exercise for 2019 intake

Yes going to be hectic...may still want to go for ballot for APS as it's really close to home and convenient for us unless the stats is really odd in the morning.


Anyone has the experience of registering on site? How long will the process take? I'm thinking that I need to allow sufficient time to travel from one school to the other.

If I decide to go ballot for APS/RVPS, might need to station at Queenstown PS also as I'm also worried that there are not much spaces left for 2CS.

Any further views?

Actually, if you are within the same phase (i.e. P2C) for all the schools you are considering, why do you want to go through the hassle of applying and withdrawing? You might as well wait till the last day to decide. If you are determined to go for balloting in APS, time to decide a backup school.

Personally, I don't think there's any difference between Zhangde and Queenstown. I would go for distance if I were you.

This is something that I can never figure out.

Why bother with applying / withdrawing when you can just wait and see, then register on the last day after lunch - especially for schools that are known to ballot for a particular distance? Save a lot of hassle of stationing here and there. Some parents seem to have fear or feel paiseh being the one to cause a balloting situation. Seriously... this isn't first come first serve.

That said, schools can really help if they post the updated information on a white board / website without having parents to keep asking the general office.

Yup,maybe 10 to 20. Current enrolment for k2 Moe Kindergarten is 140. If fail, will try Fern Green or Fernvale at phase 2C. Should be quite safe. :xedfingers:

Hi all, need your advice of the followings:


There are few choices of schools in my area and we are SC under 2C phase:
1. Alexandra PS (5mins walking distance) - preferred but understand that balloting might be required for SC<1km
2. Zhangde PS (~0.85km) - need balloting for SC<2km? Need to take bus there, also there are locations where no shelters. problematic if raining. For Zhangde, I heard some negative feedback from some existing parents...so not sure if it's just for a particular teacher. Any comments for ZD?
3. RVPS (~1.4km) - need to take bus and there might be balloting for SC<2km. But the bus ride will be along my way to work.

Our main choice of criteria is actually close to home, regardless the rating of school, as we are working parents and totally rely on helper for the kids. Since APS is so close to home, our current view is that we may go for APS first to participating the balloting. If we fail, our backup choice might be Queenstwoon PS (<2km) but not sure if there are still places left for 2CS due to dragon babies.

Another choice is we keep monitoring of the registration rates of APS, RVPS and ZD on the day, and decide on the day to choose a safer option.

Your comments would be much appreciated.

If i were u, i will join the ballot for APS, firstly, SC got absolute priority, 2nd u r <1km, 3rd is just 5mins walk, 4th ur ultimate objective is distance, 5th even before ballot, the ones <1km will admit first before balloting starts, 6th even if ballot <1km, the odds of not getting it is not high. All the conditions are met and at your favor, just go ahead...

It definitely has an advantage. The gap between the affiliated/non-affiliated cut-off-points may or may not become narrower over time depending on supply & demand - that’s the part which remains to be seen. Just go for MGS I say. Definitely gives you more peace of mind. Affiliated JC too (for O level route).

since you come under MGS (BT) Phase 2A2 (ex MGS student years ago), you may ask your Principal to clarify :-
whether from 2021 onwards, the affliation Cut-off point for MGS, will be set at (around) AL 16 points, for Total of 4 subjects, or even lower (better still), than the equivalent of 220 ?

because 220 is the current Affliation T-score for MGS P6 students, to go back to Secondary 1 MGS O-level.

If Principal's reply is even better than AL 16 points, then you ought to be smiling happily away !

How to get current T-score, 220 ?
means on Average, per subject : need to score at least 75 marks and above.

And, under the new AL PSLE system :
if the score is 75 marks, for a subject, the score will fall under the new AL Band 4.

Total of 4 subjects will be (4 x 4 ) equal Total 16 AL points.

After clarify with MGS principal, perhaps may share with us, here.

On and off, Principals of various affliated primary schools, do give update to impacted (parents & students) born in 2009 and after : how the new AL psle scheme works, for affliated pupils.

MGS is a good school. Go back !
Your daughter can study for next 10 years, from Primary 1, all the way right up to O-level. Next time if your daughter prefer to go other Sec school and her psle results permit, also can.

Anglo-Chinese Junior College is the affliated Junior College, for All Methodist Secondary schools. So good !

because your current T-score of 200: if mapped backwards, is around 68 marks and above, per subject, on average.

And 68 marks happen to fall under the new PSLE AL Band ... 5

Pioneering AL batch are currently 2018 P3, this year.

Principals of affliated schools, more or less have an idea, of what to set, although they may not want to announce so early yet. Nearer the time, closer to 2021, then they will broadcast publicly. But, they do have some idea in mind, now.
