Choosing and Evaluating Primary Schools

Hi janet88, thanks for your response. Because Yishun Primary is not our top choice and it is much further away from my house. My top choice is Northland primary which is less than 1km but because it is so oversubscribed for the past years, I'm contemplating if we should go ahead and try our luck... The only worry is we fail so dunno if we should 1)go ahead and try Northland 2) just go with yishun primary at phase 2A2
You are facing a possible 4 applicants is to 1 vacancy in northland. you need to know your threshold..janet88:
Dear parents, need some advice here... We are staying in Yishun and within 1km from Northland primary. Given the past balloting history, would you recommend we try our luck in phase 2C? My worry is if we fail, our 2nd choices like Hua Min/Northview (1-2km) will already be taken up fully at 2Cs. My husband is from Yishun Primary but because it is not our first choice so might not want to go for it at phase 2A2. Any thoughts?
the principal at yishun primary is a very thoughtful and warm hearted lady.
I know because my hubby is working in that school. since your hubby is from yishun primary, why not register there under phase 2A2?
Huamin will be full by 2C, although the Take up in phase 1 is lower, its likely to have a balloting for 1-2km in 2C at best. Northview will be full by 2C.
what will be your backup choice in 2Cs? what if your backup choice within 2C itself if you decided not to take the balloting risk? -
Dear parents
My girl can go to Zhangde at 2A2 but we would like to send her to a better school beyond 2 km from our home
As I have two girls, am considering either St Margaret or CHIJ Kellock under 2C as both have affiliated secondary schools. Between the two schools, which school is better in terms of academics and school culture.
And which affiliated secondary school is a better option ?
My backup school will be Queenstown Pri as it is the nearest.
Between Queenstown Pri and Zhang De, which school is a better choice in terms of academics and overall school culture ?
Thank you. -
I am contemplating between Hougang Pri and Palm View Pri. Any advices for these 2 schools?

I need to transfer my son's primary school due to moving house. Any mummy can give me feedback on Marsiling Primary and Fuchun Primary? Thanks in advance. :thankyou:

Hi mummytang,hi tinywings, thanks a lot for your advice.
Will there still be space in Qifa at phase2CS?
I can't seem to find feedback about Qifa primary and the demographics whether there's high numbers of foreigners.
I am just worried if fail at NH, might end up no where and further...
I'm staying at west coast too. Nan hua is the most popular and most competitive amongst the 4 schools in the clementi area. Clementi Pri and Qifa are popular too and all the spaces are usually taken up by Phase 2c, so the only school with vacancies at Phase 2cs is Pei Tong Pri. Your question whether to go for NH or Qifa is a common dilemma amongst pp living in our area. Some decide to try balloting in Nan Hua while others just go for Qifa in phase 2c. I myself have decided to go for Qifa (which is 5 mins walk from my house and they are a decent school) then to take the risk. -

Thanks for replying to my post. Well, Choa Chu Kang Pri would be within the 1km of my house. I'm contemplating btwn CCKPS and SVPS (which is almost 2km away - need to take school bus). -

If CCKPS is within 1km of your house, then that is the only viable option. SVPS is irrelevant to you unless you are going to move to within 1km.
That would be pretty silly, if you are thinking about moving from balloting within 1km for school A to balloting within 1km for school B.
