I think first to scrap should be phase 2B for GRL, during my last 2yrs as a GRL i saw alot of them join rc due wanting to get their kids to their choices of school and after getting what they want they resigned.
And they were not genuine wanting to serve the residence.
Some even worst, knowing never get GRL status straight away resign from RC becos
Don't want to waste anymore time volunteering.
P.S. Just sharing some real life incidents i met and not targetting anyone in here.
They are gaming the system because the rules allow them to do so. There are equally many who suddenly remember their religion or become religious a couple of years before registration.

Could you really blame them? That is what’s being preached and taught right here on Kiasu Parents.

They’ve already tightened it. It used to be 1 year for GRLs. Now is 2 years.

Yes this article reminded me of our MP/Minister's kids who got into popular schs via Alumni route. Is like a \"legacy\" that they get to be entitled.

If ever tmr's Straits Times headline printed \"XX Minister registering his child in a neighborhood sch, instead of his Alumni sch\". If only someone up there publicised that he is applying his child to a pri sch which (1.) has a history of low enrolment and (2.) poor passing PSLE results, I then will be convinced that every sch is a good sch.

Haha...thats what my hubby mention too. But come to think of it lar, some parents including myself would just want our kids to go to our old school mah and because the trust and foundation is there. So its really not fair if they want to scrap the alumni priority away.

This is because they \"die die\" must get into that particular school in phase 2B. Such cases guess they really deserved the place for their efforts because of :

          1. His efforts and hard work for 2yrs in RC.
          2. The money spent and the hassle in shifting house.

I think Tampines primary is still okay to try at 2C for 1-2km. Especially if you do not want to go into 2CS. So far I have heard decent comments about the school.

we haven't read of any article which mentioned so and so minister registered his/her child in a neighbourhood school which isn't branded. so how to walk the talk that 'all schools are good schools'?

Humans are selfish in nature. Do u think the Ministers would want to \"risk\" their kids future or chance at excellence by registering them at a school with low enrollment, and example \"4 out of 6\" p6 classes are Foundation classes. With bad PSLE passing rate with majority grad to Normal stream? It is the probability game. Most of us including the Ministers all hope and want the best start for our kids. Regardless it is a fair starting point or not, they will not risk their children's future. Unless they really believe in the system, then prove it to us commoners.

The only way is call up the school or go down to the school personally. Otherwise hope for some kind parents here to post it on KSP forum.

There is nothing wrong with the mantra, \"all schools are good schools.\" That statement is probably 99.9% true.

However, there's no point pretending that all schools are equal schools. Schools draw their resources from all over the place, not just the government. The better the support, the more likelihood that the kids will have a better head start. Sad, but true.

True story, there is a Principal in a neighbourhood sch, his son was in his own school in p1 but in p2, the P transferred his own son out to a more popular school nearby. Even the staff and parents within that school were gossiping about this. Why he has no confidence in the own school that he is a P of, must transfer his son to a "better" sch?
