I did for my DC1, he scored 88 for English in P5 SA2. Still was not offered Hinch lor

Mine was weak in S&T then, so no choice get Sherman's help since school refuse Hinch. He just look at overall scores. I cld've saved on P6 tuition.

But my boy teacher is nice. Gave him the Hinch worksheet for him to do and get it submitted to be marked. The teachers are super caring.

Come to think about it…what is so big deal after school program? Afterall, all schools also have after school programs. Does it mean these kids who attend it are a goner?

Oh yes. That I can concur.

Tho HOD says strictly no, DC's English teacher agree to offer the papers for practices & marking. HOD only sheepishly said OK, when one day I met him to tell him things sorted out. He recognized me as one mum who always offered my help to prepare boys who needed help with English Oral practices every year.

We help where we can lah, knowing the resources are not always 'enuf'.

Don't think we shld view it that way.

I don't tend to look just at scores, bcoz if kids do not hv strong foundation, they'll be oscillating thro the scores. We must be able to identify where the weaknesses are & address it so that kids ustand the various elements (for language) and how it works or to be applied; or topics that they're not confident with & guide them to overcome the confusion to help them excel.

In a classroom context, the topics may be taught but for various reasons, the child cld hv missed grasping the concepts. Therefore, supplementary classes or Hinch comes in (as supplement to initial lesson taught).

That's my view.

Estee, I agreed with you. Just that don’t like the idea that some view attending supplementary programs are for those who is not smart. Like yourself, this year I volunteer in giving extensive oral practices for English and Chinese to some boys who wants it. I feel that these boys have the potential but just being playful. I do it every single morning before school starts. It was fun and we did so many topics. The small group of 5s grew so big that I cannot handle anymore. My priority is the P6. Some P3 and P5 boys also keen. It was so fun to see each and every boys got improvement. Their recent prelim oral result was a surprise to some.
