Depends on your or your kids' motivation. If it's just for fun then nope but if you are hoping for better performance then yes. The competition is stiffer nowadays as compared to in the past since many children are \"motivated\" and undergo mo training.
If the kids are self-motivated+smart+parents' guidance, still need to go training? I thought the benefit from course for this kind of kids is practice, more practice, more and more practice.....then if practice can be done at home, then why still need to go the training course? :? sorry really duno what the training centre can offer....justbehappy:
so Jeck Lim proves I am right?
He did not. You can't find his name in any of the achievement lists published on the Internet by the various maths olympiad training centres.HyperKiasu:
But Lim Jeck is really a math guru. did he attend many trainings when he was in pri sch?

Firstly, to take note, there are over 150 primary schools in singapore. On average, each primary school has about 200 students. That's a total of 150 x 200 = 30 000 students.
The 3000 students sent to take part in SMOPS are mostly students from the top class.
600/30000 = top 2%. Not bad at all.

I am quite sure lim jeck is not smart, he is very very smart. Todayโs smops is harder than a decade ago and it is not easy for someone to achieve lim jeckโs performance without outside training. Besides from lim jeckโs achievements itโs fair to say he is a genius in mathematics.
Although you scenario might be reasonably true if the parental guidance is excellent or the child has access to many solution booklets to learn. -

Donno leh? :? Yah, nvm lah...But..., whoever who happened to have also watched the show, pleeaassee, help me solve the mystery!
perhaps his dad put on weight ( photo was taken after TV interview)?sunflower:
As for Lim Jeck, the boy in the show does resemble him. However, Lim Jeck's dad looks slightly more plump in the photo in his blog. The dad being interviewed on TV was slightly leaner and wore specs, so probably not Lim Jeck's dad then.
So sorry for the wrong info. Oh dear, then who's that I saw on TV? I'm really intrigued! :?
or lost weight if the interview took place after the photo-taking?
nvm lah....

Yes. To fully understand the solutions by yourself in those workbooks and apply them is not an easy task. If you are dying to know the answer, you can just go to Lim Jeck's blog and ask him directly. -
