It is now compulsory for students who score below B3 (or was it B4?) to take H1 Chinese in JC1, there's an option for those who scored B but want to improve to A to take as well, but most people try to avoid it as it's rather time-consuming.
how about now ? If score below B3 for HCL at Sec 4, can still re-take HCL in year 5, or they bar (prevent) u ? -

Infocomm is a full subject for Sec 1 and 2 I think. Can't run away from it. Its weightage is the same as Maths or HCL lol

DS and I are very disappointed no infocomm for yr 3 and 4.We find it easiest to get A1 than humanities subjects. :gloomy:
So will it be offered at A level? -
Yes Maple Leaf - Computing is back as an A level subject after a long time hiatus!
But I am not sure what combinations HCI will offer.
Infocomm is difficult but I am really personally very impressed at what HCI has been doing with the Infocomm syllabus in Sec 1! -
Dear parents
Any tuition centres contact to share, preferably in the west or bukit timah area. Son in sec 2 and thinks he needs more practise in maths, science.

Awww. hang in there. Humanities subjects are important and the skills learnt there will help in GP for A-levels.doodbug:

In JC, not many kids do computing although it is a straight A subject for HCI, as most kids prefer to do hard sciences (Phy, Chem, Bio) for their sci subjects, cos of the pre-requisites for certain courses in universities. -

Surprised to hear that not many take up CS for A levels. I thought boys like CS. Initially, I also thinking of asking DS take minimum subjects for A levels as he has commitment in CCA and various competitions. But a relative advise me that better take more for pre-requisites,too. Now that you mentioned, I wonder how many is good? What is the typical combination?
Lexis,my boy likes humanities lah. Just that he only gets 2 all the time. he says he cannot get MSG 1,no matter how hard he tries.

The maximum number of H2 subjects you can read in JC is 4. Hence Computing won't be popular as it means taking up one of the four H2 subjects. Each H2 slot is 'precious'.
2 is a decent score I thought? heehee

The minimum requirement forA levels is 3H2 1H1 content subject, one of which must be contrasting. Even if you do 4H2, your worst H2 will be "downgraded" to a H1. A large number of HCI kids do 4H2 because it makes a difference when it comes to scholarship applications (something about Academic unitsβ¦) but there are also a number of kids who do 3H2 1 H1. HCI has its own internal criteria for deciding this. IIRC you need a minimum MSG to do 4H2 and cannot have taken any re-exams in sec 4.
Typical Sci combination will be P/BCME (physics or bio, Chem, Math and Econs). Arts students usually do H/GELM (hist or geography, econs, lit and maths). HCIβs JC website has some info on what combinations will be offered and etc, but all this may change by your sonβs time, so perhaps just take it as a guide.
2 is good, esp if only in sec 1! keep it up.
