hi, need some help from kind souls here
i have a boy born 2013 so will be registering next year phase 2C for 2020 intake. currently staying in hougang but new bto ready in 2022, therefore i'm unable to use new address for registration. i'm in a dilemma if i should register in hougang or should i register schools nearer to my new home?
thanks a lot for any advise
As long as expected TOP of new address is by end of child Pri 2 year, you can use the new address to register.
HDb only states probable top as 2Q 2022, which means my boy would have been in p3 already. So I cannot use the new address for registration. Unless I rent around the area temporarily for registration. Otherwise, what are the chances of a transfer in p3? Many thanks!
P1/P2 class size is 30 kids. P3 onwards class size is 40 kids. Therefore chances for transfer are pretty good. If it’s a super popular school, though, they may be picky, based on the child’s exam results. -
I’m not sure how far u are from your current place but travelling to school will be 6 years so its better to register a school around your new place.

Depending on which school. Transfer to a \"unpopular\" school usually those still with Phase 3 spaces left over, can be quite easy, anytime of the year. My friend transferred her kid to 2 different schools just a few mths apart these 2 schools in punggol.
If a popular school, you might as well try to get in during registration period, as majority of the primary years at new address.
Maybe if you name the school, many will be able give more specific advise on the what's that possibility of getting into that school, at different phase and distance possibility. -
Hi all, checking in as I will register my daughter next year for 2020 in-take. Already having a rollercoaster of a ride with my son this dragon year (we didn’t plan for a dragon…), arghhh.
I will likely enroll my daughter in MGS as I’m an alumni. We live rather far at Whampoa, but after this year’s craziness, I don’t think I can take the stress or uncertainty again… -

Just go for the safest. Whampoa is not really very far from MGS...come straight down via Moulmein Road & Newton Road to Newton Circus, then straight down Bukit Timah Road to MGS.Hi all, checking in as I will register my daughter next year for 2020 in-take. Holy Innocents (within 1km)
Monfort junior (within 1km)
North Vista (within 1km)
Punggol primary (within 1km)
Yio Chu Kang primary (within 1km)
my bto is in bidadari so I would have:
Maris Stella (within 1km)
Cedar Primary (within 1km)
Yangzheng Primary (within 1km)
St Andrew (1-2km)
St Gabriel (1-2km)
But I'm only in phase 2C so I wonder what are my chances of getting in, unless I rent somewhere nearby bidadari first. -

Both Hougang area & Bidadari area have large volumes of young kids. And yet, u do not need to fret because there will always be sufficient places in the nearby schools to go around.

Considering the bigger picture, I would advise just apply to a school in Hougang (u can shortlist a 2C + 2CS pair) to minimize traveling in your son’s P1-3 years.
Then after you move into your Bidadari BTO, go to all the schools in that area and submit Transfer applications. Those that have place will offer you. Bear in mind that P3 and P4 usually will have some places opening up. Usually. Even if none at Maris Stella or St Andrew’s, Cedar Primary will have. And Cedar is not a bad school either, just that no affiliated secondary. So your son will definitely have a place somewhere near your new flat to minimize traveling, don’t worry lah.
If u try to get him into a popular school at 2C near Bidadari (bear in mind that MSHS had to ballot this year <1km 2C), he will face 3 years of long travel and may come to hate primary school as the adjustment from kindergarten will be doubly hard with the super early wake up time. -

Actually hougang/SK to Bidadari is not really far... i know coz i'm sending my kids to school from SK to Potong Pasir everyday!
To me school with affiliation is more important  If i were u i will juz go ahead to apply MS or SA since will be moving there next time? Yes no doubt these two school now require balloting within 1km but isn't HIPS also the same? Anyway this is juz my own opinion, i'm sure u know what best for ur child.... -

You're right! It's a pretty straightforward route and we will make it work. :rahrah:

Bidadari is quite a different ball game for the next few years. 6000 new flats !!

I would try to get into the school around that area asap, especially when you mentioned for 2019 registration, those new address are not possible to use yet. As years goes by both registration and transfer to schools will just get tougher.
I would try to get into a school during 2019 registration by renting and will move to this rented place, then you would have all 6 years of school nearby. Just rent out your hougang place to someone who need get into Holy Innocent's :imanangel: !
