Because I got my first choice school, I never got to use my full bag of tricks. I just remembered my backup strategy
and thought it'd be good to share for benefit of those that are undecided at this stage, I hope this is going to be helpful for you all.

Take the day or afternoon off. Go to the bus stop and fast food restaurant
outside the shortlisted school during school dismissal. Check out the neighbouring library too. Keep a lookout specifically for P6 students. See their mannerisms... How are they behaving during this critical year? If they are studious then it's a good sign. If they are messing around, in BGRs or just not studying, then avoid. Remember how it was for us at that age? Peer pressure and group think is dominant dictator of how we will behave. U may think your kid is well behaved but there's always a chance they will fall into bad company. Just make an informed decision on minimising the chance.

Wish everyone the best of luck.

      Cheers
      good advice, Peiliang 🙂

the worst is to enter a school with bullying, stealing, fighting, problematic kids, gangster, using handphone where inside the class whatsapp chat group contain lots of cursing, swearing words, 'f***' word, etc.

        Problematic kiddos: checked.

        Foul language: checked.
        BGR: checked.
We didn’t manage to get in the school of choice and likely to end up with above. Which was what we were trying to avoid. It was a hard pill to swallow but wow, when you end up with a dragon baby, I will need the luck and sanity...

U referring to First TPY PS I suppose? I totally feel you as well. Especially when you have a daughter.

I suggest you monitor closely the stats for MC. If got chance for 1-2km, please go for it. As for the other further schools like Mayflower etc, lets see the TUR on Day 1...

😂 You guessed it, thank you! FTPPS, it’s already a mouthful to pronouce for me, anything that is gonna start with a F.

Armed with the figures and stats from PCPS and KCPS and unexpected TUR at MCS (plan B? What? No plan B), I have faith that my home school distance can’t fend off the applicants from TPY North, TPY Sapphire, TPY West, TPY Rise, Bradell View and all the way to the edge of Macritchie/Lornie. It is a loong shot if I were to register. Murphy’s Law in place!

Yes, end of the day, how many companies look at our PSLE certificates? But the moral upbringing will be with the kids all throughout their life.

How about between Opera Estate primary and Telok Kurau primary : which is better ?

(apart from Telok Kurau being LKY alma mater)
Just a feel hor, but flame me...I'd think it's Opera Estate. Although Telok Kurau is tucked inside the estate with 'Alphabet' lanes, it's attracted a lot of residents from Eunos, Geylang Serai area. Opera Estate though not top-notch is smack inside Frankel, Siglap Ave, Elite Park, etc. Affluent zone in East Coast. There'll be Bedok residents of course, but there'll be chin chai, chillax parents who don't mind picking Opera Estate for convenience's sake.

It's the same for Bukit Timah Primary. Not hot compared to Pei Hwa and so on, but there're still takers from Bukit Timah area e.g. chillax working parents like my ex-colleague. Affluent with 2 properties in BukitTimah, legal background, Chief XX level now. She didn't bother with PVs and just put in BTPS. Son is very happy and enjoys the curriculum there 🙂

Another one is Stamford Primary. Also low take-up, but my friend, a senior executive/PR from a developed country, puts kid there as the family lives inside CBD/fringe including Tg Rhu, Newton, Novena, MacKenzie. His son is very well-mannered and very intelligent (tuition at United Sq), just like him.

Some people don't bother with fighting for hot places. They need the primary school to be near enough for maid to help pick up, then they supplement with quality tuition at home and kids become biggest fish in small pond.

Hi all. May I have some advice please? I’m considering either AMK Primary or Mayflower Pri. Can share with me some reviews on these two schools please? Thank you!!

Mayflower. Again, just my feel, as I've 2 friends living in Sembawang Hills/ Thomson area with girls there. Pleasant girls they are. They couldn't get into SNGS/ATS.

                      Bendeemer Primary
                      Farrer park Primary
                      Stamford Primary

For Toa Payoh, there's always GYPS in Bishan as an alternative as well (I highly doubt it's The Peak, since MCS would have been within 1km).
Given the concerns, I'll pick GYPS over FTPPS if traveling is not an issue (there are several direct buses from Toa Payoh to Braddell Road).
