Situation in Tampines is tricky.

The overflow from 2C Tampines schools is 244. From St Hilda’s and Poi Ching alone, 180 all SC within 1km. For the overflow from these 2 schools, I believe most will not have <1km options for 2CS. The most promising school nearby is Tampines North. 84 places is a healthy number for 2CS in other years, not this one. I think it likely that all Tampines schools will go into ballot for 2CS except Angsana. If you are SC outside 1km for Yu Min and East Spring, you might not have a chance to even ballot.

That said, there are more than enough vacancies in Tampines. Angsana will likely take the ones who overflow from 2CS ballots.

The safest 2CS school in Tampines would be Angsana. Other safer 2CS options would be in Bedok where the overflow from Temasek and RSS isn’t that large. Below 100, I recall. I’m talking about Bedok Green, Damai, St Anthony’s (girls only). I didn’t look at the overflow and vacancies for Pasir Ris schools, could consider those too.

Vacancies at a glance:

Yu Min 22
East Spring 34
Changkat 47
Tampines North 84
Angsana 161

St Anthony’s 86
Bedok Green 100
Damai 131

All the best for those going into 2CS!

The next best thing you can do (if u live just next to the school or just across the road), go and plead with the MP, MOE, waitlist staff...on the basis of your extremely close proximity to the school. Who knows, in future the rules will change to allocate based on meters to the school?

In the meantime, show your child your resilience & fighting spirit and plan your travel route to the backup school. Instead of modeling whinyness and stamping your foot at unfairness.
we were staying just 5 minutes walk from the school. i remember back then it was so stressful to think of the number of kids staying within 1km. i didn't want a dragon kid actually but didn't want to skip a whole year to have a baby in 2001. some parents were hoping to reduce the distance to within 500m.
Thanks to all. Now I wonder if anyone knowledgeable can produce some ranking of leftover ph2cs schools in order of reputation? Would be useful for all members.

Hope the below helps.

Folks, there are hidden gems and treasures if you look for it. Tinywings did an 2Cs analysis. Please refer to it for the school that you want to apply. Remember, take it as a reference. Pick you first choice and back up. If you are not in for balloting, once the numbers filled up for your category, move on. (its best to monitor the number by yourself, phone or physically)
MOE kindergarten allocation is based on 500m, 1km, 1.5km, 2km... i think this is more fairer, or wat zac's mum mention allocate based on meters to the school, this is even more fairer, the kid most nearest to the sch should benefit rather than those is more than 300m or 500m onwards........

hmmm… I think some time is not about the branded schools, it the nearest sch that we want, especially is those that is right next to your blk, walk less than 5mins, and yet you cant get your child in, so near yet so far…haiz…

it make no sense to travel to the next nearest sch which is maybe 20min or even more than 30min away, in such cases, measure by meters from home to sch shoule apply.

I totally agree. It is not really about the 'branded' school but those that are nearby. The example you quoted above is exactly what I will be going through. I got balloted out from the school right next to my place and will have to travel at least 30mins to the rest of the school with vacancies.

precisely, i know there is no system in the world can please everyone, at least not balloting, measurable by distance should make sense indeed, if MOE want balloting, is it that once you got ballot out from the sch right next to u, is there no more chance for your child to go in to the sch in p1? should there be a system in place to review case by case by the school to offer those that is 'unlucky' to have missed out? haiz.....

30mins? that is far then ..... really dunno how to choose....

Hi. I’m also caught in the quandry and desperately need some advice. My twins were ballotted out of a school just 400m away and we have to look for schools that we can travel comfortably in public transport but all the schools are more than 2km away. Please advise.

Err...
No one knows where you live, no one knows which schools are 2km away... and not sure what public transport is available...
Kinda hard to advise.

Since all schools are more than 2km away, then it doesnt matter which schools anymore. if u want to avoid balloting then choose schools with over a hundred vacancies to maximize your chances. Choosing schools with less than 30 vacancies is just suicide, its just wasting your 2CS chance.
