Hello kikimama, yes you're right, I was worried it's due to poor quality of teachers or teaching materials.. is it cos the school does not motivate or push students to do well.
If your only concern is the low takeup rate - what are your underlying worries to that? Quality of teachers?Bonbon12:
Thanks floppy. My son is learning violin now and I saw on their website that GY has a strings ensemble. I thought it is good to have a cca that he will enjoy. During the open house I saw the school is spacious and relatively new, a number of nationalities there too.
I am still trying to decide if I should try for GY. We are in phase 2C. I believe in co-ed schools, a well rounded and positive environment. I kept feeling I am right when every kan cheong parent is running for ATS, CHS, KCPS, but when I saw the statistics of the low take up rate online, my heart just sank. I kept wondering if it's just an over emphasis on grades and therefore parents don't choose GY or something else that's wrong.. from the comments here, it seems that GY is a nice school.
But I'm vencouraged by what you've shared. I believe grades matter but they are not everything. Character, cca, diversity are very important too. In fact I would be concerned if all a school cares about are only grades. -
Hi! I’ve registered my b/g twins at Guangyang Pri at 2CS. Although we are more than 2km away, we’ll have to wait for official results. Any parents that I can connect with this group?

Some of them are really on the ball, make and compile their own study notes for students (i call them the \"holy bible\"), voluntarily pull students aside for extra clarifications etc. They take a lot of pride in their job. In fact, i may even boldly suggest they teach more here than telling parents of lagging students to seek external resources to catch up.
This happened to a friend of mine whose boy is in a SAP boys school. But then again, these are just my experience and i hope they help you in some way or another. -
Hi all, is higher chinese offered for P5/6?
-
Higher Chinese is offered from P1 in GYPS
At p5 it is offered to students who show aptitude or their parents can opt in for their kids to try. By p6, it is up to school discretion to decide, esp for students who are not doing well at p5. -

Thank you @kikimama. Would you know how would the orientation be like? We have been notified to attend an orientation in Novemeber. Will we get to meet the primary one teachers?

Hello! Anyone knows how will the orientation be like? My child is quite nervous and apprehensive about starting primary school as he loves his pre school friends a lot. Hope the November orientation will be a nice and helpful one…
