Zappy:
Not sure if it's the same for everyone, but yesterday's question was about whether you'd go to that school. Not whether you want to go to the open house.
Actually I am not sure what exactly was asked. I am only addressing the point that most assumed that majority of the kids would have experienced an open house, so yesterday’s topic is an easier one. The open houses in May was mainly for the TOP 3-10% of the PSLE students.. so ~80% of these kids have yet to attend one

I think yesterday EL oral topic questions are more related on the choosing of secondary school, as long as your kid has a dream / target school should be able to answer most of the questions. Not necessarily has to had attended the open house before.ryka:
Problem for my DD also, EL oral speech contest is not a common topic. I think most 12-years old seldom have interests to hear speeches if never involves in speech & drama or debates activities
Mine has never attended an open house. So the topic yesterday was not something that she can relate to.
Those open houses in April/May are usually held by the TOP schools. Unless the kids are all of the RI/HCI/RGS/DHS (mostly IP schools) callibre, the majority of the PSLE kids would not have attended an open house yet. The regular secondary schools typically hold their open houses in November, just before the release of the PSLE results or the weekend after it.
Of course for kids who have attended DSA interview would already have a great advantage. -
my son had chinese ytd and eng today. anyway is my personal opinion that today’s topic is easier.
dif child has dif exposure.
so just hope for the best for their upcoming psle papers in sep!
jiayou all parents! -

understand your point. cos have heard many of my boys classmates attend open house. and in fact there are also children attending open houses when they are p5 last yr as recommended by parents. there are also secondary sch coming to my boy sch to give talk on their sch. so tt why my opinion open house can be a easier topic esp also is the stage they are going thru soon in selecting a sec sch.ryka:

Pray that all kids will focus & do their very best. Most importantly keep healthy physically, emotionally & mentally. Drink to keep cool in this hot weather. It's a milestone with more coming in sec sch. -

Not from what I have observed from DC’s friends discussion.

I think the teachers do have the leeway to guide the students back if straying from topic, ask clarifying questions, prompt the students who are stuck. So it's possible that there are some slight variations.
Thought I saw a forummer mention yesterday that the kid was asked about CCA in the school, which seemed slightly different.
