Out of 40, how many marks would you consider to be good for Normal chinese zuowen ?
-
Soscate:
Hi, this is really subjective. In my kids’ school, I heard from P6 parents that it is so tough to get above 40. Only a handful are able to get 45 and above. Average score is around 35 only.Bochapmum3:

According to our teachers, at least 40/50 (CL Oral) is the target for average/weak students; strong ones at least 45/50.
The same applies for compo, if can get 33 or 34, it is already considered extremely good. It is difficult to compare across schools, different school different standard. Perhaps SAP schools are more strict in Chinese. Standard is undoubtedly high. The best is to check with teachers, average score for the cohort.
These days I try not to compare with nieces and nephews from other schools. It just made me feel more nervous when their schools are giving close to full mark kind of score which is way too miracle in my kids’ school.
学校的要求过高,但老师也并不是教得哪么棒呀!如果没有补习老师,后果不堪设想。 -
In my previous schools, we didn't reveal the exact marks. Instead, we let the students and parents know which mark range they manage to achieve.
Oral 口试
0-24 下
25-32 中下
33-38 中
39-44 中上
45-50 上
Compo 作文
0-9 下
10-17 中下
18-23 中
24-29 中上

Thank you for the sharing, chenlaoshi.
love1001, yes, it is not advisable to compare across schools. The enrichment tutor wanted to give us a CL Oral mark to work towards. If the child practises Reading (under guidance) everyday (for a month? prior) and tries to remember a logical mode of responding to the Video conversation, 40/50 (we are SAP school too) is well possible even for an average ability. -
Need to ask 2 questions:
1) For PSLE maths paper 1, if the question is ‘How many small packets of sugar did Mrs Lee have?’
And the child wrote the answer as ‘75’, instead of ‘75 small packets’, will marks be deducted?
2) For maths paper 1, if the given answer is 3.4 litres, and the child wrote it as 3 2/5 litres, will marks be deducted?
Thanks. -
FantasyLandDreams:
1) No. Unless the unit is for $, then they need to write. Also, need to take note - some of the answer blanks already has a unit behind, eg. ______ boys. If the answer is then written as 35 boys boys, then will be wrong also.Need to ask 2 questions:

2) No, should not take away marks, unless they state that the answer is to be given in decimals or to x decimal places. The convention is to answer in the same format as the question. Eg. if the question is asking in terms of fractions, then answer in fractions. If the question is asking in terms of decimals, then give answer in decimals. -

\"packets\" is not a standard measurement unit. Only questions that involved units of measurement are required.
Example cm, km, m, litres, ml, kg, g and etc. -
Thanks, zappy and phtthp.

Zappy:
Also want to add that, if the question is in cm (like a container measuring L cm x B cm x H cm), and then what is the volume of water (without stating units), you can answer in V cm3 or V ml, it is not wrong.
The convention is to answer in the same format as the question. Eg. if the question is asking in terms of fractions, then answer in fractions. If the question is asking in terms of decimals, then give answer in decimals. -
Chinese oral- does anyone know if there is any resource /book, which provides a summary of the key points for each conversation topic? For revision purpose say 1-2 days before exam, such a book will be v useful since can’t possibly revise all topics again.
