      kikimama:
Higher Chinese is offered from P1 in GYPS

At p5 it is offered to students who show aptitude or their parents can opt in for their kids to try. By p6, it is up to school discretion to decide, esp for students who are not doing well at p5.
      :thankyou:

Hello! Anyone knows how will the orientation be like? My child is quite nervous and apprehensive about starting primary school as he loves his pre school friends a lot. Hope the November orientation will be a nice and helpful one…

Hi Bonbon12, sorry for checking in late. My memory of P1 orientation is nil coz it was my hubby who attended. I asked around and it seems like the students will be separated into their respective classes and get to meet their classmates and form teachers while parents attend talks in the school hall. It shld be a nice and helpful orientation and try to assure your child that things will be fine. He will grow up into a big boy in this school and many happy memories will be made here 🙂 Welcome to the Guangyang Family!

Thank you. We didn't see any of the form teachers though.

Hi! Realized not many posts recently. How’s the current P? My DD is due to register next year and I’m planning to visit GY.

How’s the culture now? Thanks in advance!

My twinnies are with GYPS and I think they are enjoying themselves so far. You may want to take a look at their FB posts to see the programmes that they are doing. The teachers do upload the photographs to share and who what the school is doing.

Even at P1, they have spelling tests etc and timed practices, which I appreciate a lot.

My girl is in p4 this year and overall we are enjoying the journey in GYPS. The school focuses on helping the students and not so much on PR. Only recently did they start posting more photos of events on their Facebook page.

Academic wise there are a mix of abilities among the students. Some are really brilliant students, but there are also others who need some extra help. From my experience the teachers don’t really judge but try to help the students as much as they can. I find my DD has time to explore and grow at her timing rather than race to compete to maintain her standing.

Perhaps it would be good to go and visit the school at their upcoming Open House before you decide. Good luck!
