Some schools ask P6 students to go back to their own individual classroom, then release psle results inside the classroom.


Other schools ask all P6 students go to the hall directly, sit down according to their class, two by two. Then, Tr asked them to queue up, collect Psle results.

Meanwhile, parents all sat at the back of the school hall, waiting patiently (anxiously).

I guess my DD’s school is the hall version. It seems to be a mess but yet there seems to be some order. I think at the end of the presentation that kids were told to line up at the back of the hall for their results. A bit of a mess, really.

I don't know if PSLE Results Day means so much for teachers. Apparently it does for the schools. I was at my DD's school last year to receive her results. It was very stressful. We were gathered in the hall, with the students in front. They played a video of students who did better than 250 (they didn't tell us) and awarded them with gifts and other stuff and there seems to be a lot of them. My girl was not amongst the recipients who were lauded so I was kind of worrying. Only when they finally gave out the PSLE slips to everyone did I realise that my girl got 249 for her PSLE T-scores which to me was a pretty good score and we were relieved. Nothing like what you see in the video which hardly showed any parent. There were definitely plenty of parents during the PSLE results Day.

I think there is a difference between results day and awards day, and I wished the school is more conscious that there will always be some students who does not make it, for whatever reasons. The more conscious the schools makes students aware of their grades, the more stressful it is for students or their parents. If the intent is to keep PSLE less stressful, schools should be more aware of the implications of what they do during results day.

Thanks. I thought so too. What is heartening is that it is purely her effort (her parents did not do anything much) and I am proud of her. Hopefully this can happen at all times

In some schools, Principal will call out the individual names of those P6 students who scored 250 & above, to go up the hall stage to take group phototograph, together. Parents seated below the stage, can count Total # of students standing on stage, can find out Total how many P6 students inside cohort, scored 250 & above.


As each pupil’s name is being called aloud by Principal, they will use the overhead projector to flash out the individual pupil’s name onto a big computer screen on stage, also flash out from which P6 class the pupil comes from, and also what Cca portfolio (title) the student is holding. Eg. Vice-Captain of Volleyball School team, or Captain of Hockey School team, or EXCO Prefect, etc.

Principal may say, "These P6 students not only excel academically (above 250), but they also excel in Cca (Sports), as well "

While other schools are quiet, prefer low profile. Don’t flash anything onto the screen inside school hall, but just ask students to go back to their own classroom, collect Psle results slip quietly.

What is the point of giving those high scorers so much attention?


Scoring high marks, sure the parents will reward them at home with whatever their family agreed to. They can bask in their glory boasting to anybody and everybody they wish, on their own.

The schools that choose to spend so much time on glorifying the top scorers, do not know how much pain and shame they are heaping on those kids did not meet the mark. Even one point less also don’t get to go up on stage. And I’m sure the majority are those who are sitting below and silently crying inside: “Why am I not worthy enough. My marks so bad meh?!” It’s a horrible unspoken message to send. When they should be starting off their new journey with fresh hope, not discouragement and depression.

I also do not understand why the need to glorify the top scorers when MOE has already stopped announcing the national top scorer years ago.


It is worse in my DD’s school as 250+ and 260+ do not even get a chance to “stand up” for recognition. Maybe there are too many students that fall under this range so only top 10 or 15 students get to go up the stage and needless to say, they are 280+ and 270+.

I am sure this is such a nerve wrecking moment for students and parents. It is really dreadful to face this results release day.

No actual need to drag out the suspense for almost 1 to 2 whole hours.

Me too!!! I just want to collect the results and go. Not interested to sit in the school hall and wait for what seems like eternity. Both parents and students are already so nervous, why make us sit in the school hall and do all the clapping. This is not necessary.


However, I do not mind clapping for foundation class students who did well and progress to next phase of their education journey. These students in my opinion, deserve more encouragement than those who are already performing very well.

From my DD's experience, it was more than 2 hours. What I feel is that the school should properly invest in 2 days - a quiet day for PSLE results and a celebratory day for kids who did well. The PSLE results should be quietly given out to students in their classrooms and good scorers get recognition in another day. While it cannot be helped that some students in the classroom will inevitably do very well or very badly hence leading to shocked expressions, at least it would be limited.
