Any schools still give out academic awards to say top 3 or 5 in the class? Can share what’s the total % score to get such awards in your school for P5? >90% or >95% etc…

        Yes for your first question.
For the total %, that would differ for every class, eg. GEP vs mainstream classes.
Eg. the highest mark for one class may not make the top 5 in another different class

How about say top 2 mainstream classes?

Yes, this year (2018), schools still give out academic award, to Top 10 or Top 15 percent in each P5 class, as well as across entire P5 cohort level.

            For P5 Mainstream classes :-
Assume each class have 38 or 40 students, Top 15 percent ( per class), means roughy Top 5 pupils, as (0.15 x 38, roughly equal 5 pupils)

But, when they give out award, the cert itself won't indicate whether u are #1 or #2 or #3 or #4 or #5, ranked inside the class. In no random order, they will call out the pupil's name on stage, give out the award.

Depend on which class, student come from.

For GEP class : probably, Top 3 at cohort level, their overall Total > 95 percent.

For Mainstream, Top classes : probably, Top 3 at cohort level, their overall Total > 93 percent

For Mainstream, average (Mixed ability) classes :
Probably, Top 3 at class level, their overall Total > 88 percent

But, maybe next year 2019, no more such award anymore, since MOE do away with emphasis on grade.

The other types of award given, under the big umbrella of \"holistic\" education (besides academic), also include -

            - Most improved subject award
( for each of the 4 subjects, English, Maths, Science, Mother Tongue )

            - the Best individual subject award
            (at cohort level)

            - the Bilingual, Lingualistic award
(Given to students, who top in English and Mother Tongue : Malay / Tamil / Chinese )

            - Character award
            E.g. ECHA

            - Sportsmanship award, for some Cca category

            - Best NAPFA Performance award

            - Best Calligraphy, handwriting award

            - All Rounder award

            - For mission based schools, there are also some unique awards given, related to character and moral values

I found mindstretcher. I hve enrolled him for English there. For maths and science can someone suggest please.

Hi, in our top classes, we still hear of a quarter of the children going for MindStretcher SC tuition, though I've not seen their materials... Jmo, SC & MA tuitions work better when there's individual attention. You may wanna consider both 1-to-1 & group?... Before jumping into a hasty decision, however, do analyse your child's weaknesses (concept, application...)

For your schools that give award to Top 3 or Top 5, at both individual P5 classes, as well as at overall cohort level, do they also give $, trophy or give on-paper only ?

How about character award, got give $ ?

Last time they used to give cash. I still have the old POSB check for $20 from my P1 top scorer award… Lol.

Trophies for most of the awards.

                      Vouchers for some awards.
But all awards come with a cert.

For P6 I would recommend 1on1 tuition or maybe just a small group of 2 or 3 children. You need to focus on his weak areas which a tuition centre may not do, especially the more \"elite\" ones which will be focussing on speed and perfect marks by this stage not those who are struggling.
