Husband is very unhappy with child’s results. She is already feeling very upset and he scolded her twice, saying her grades are her own fault. Then blame me for not coaching her well enough even though I took two months’ leave to coach her daily. Now both child and I have no lunch.

Hi Namie,
Think positively, do handle the situation with care. Otherwise, may affect self-confidence level of your child or she will have little sense of her own self-worth. Such may affect your child during secondary education (as the posted school may not be the preferred choice, both parents and child have no sense of belonging to the posted school since day one, all tend to view all aspects of school negatively - such will affect her performance during secondary education).
May consider to guide her to do self-reflection, how to build resilience and surmount adversity.
No one will mention or bother about t-score at secondary school after 1st week of January. Everyone will start from same starting point regardless of PSLE results.
I have seen students who score poorly but do extremely well during secondary education even though they are at non IP schools/neighbourhood schools, some score extremely well for PSLE but are doing poorly during secondary education. -
My DS's AiTong classmate got 260 and ESIS was printed on his classmate's eligibility letter.
So it seems that 260 is the cut-off for ESIS (top 3% of the cohort).
Not sure about cut-off for 3rd language (top 10% of the cohort).
SnoopyImp75:
Confirmed 260 receive EESIS. Anyone lower than that get EESIS? Seems like easy psle=narrower psle score distribution
What is the cut-off for ESIS this year? Last year was 262.mommyNg:
ESIS is for top 3 %?
And what is the cut-off for foreign 3rd language (e.g., Spanish, German, Japanese)? Last year was 252 I think. -

what is the pathway to go to JC
can he appear for o level? -
Namie…don stuff yourselves over that 3 digit grade! You both worked so hard… move on to do well in secondary school and excel. Just to share my niece scored badly last year… she barely had any choice for secondary schools for express but now she is top 5 for her sec school and very motivated to do well and study herself already. Parents were relieved and cant be happier that at least she is self motivated. Make the best of the situation…it does take time to recover but you will. Stay strong, your kid needs your strength and kind words.

There is still chance to be promoted to Normal (Academic) when he goes to Secondary School and if he perform well in NA to be promoted to Express is also possible.PSLE result out today

Hi Namie,
I am very sorry to hear that. As a man, I totally disagree with your hubby's comments and behaviour ! How can he call himself to be a man ??? Me and my spouse collectively helped my DS (my DD who is 15 helped a little too), and my DS put in his best effort. My spouse coached him on theory, and I spent countless hours marking assessment books (down to the last page in each book) and past year school papers (including corrections done by DS). My DS told us that he hopes his PSLE results will be a reflection of his standard and efforts. This is not a time to play the blame game. Your hubby needs to grow up ! Now should be the time to sit down calmly to review the options and the possible 6 choices, based on the T-score.

Wah... Quite different from what I heard (or maybe my student's 'news' not accurate :p).sunflower2005:

My frz said got 284 (maybe with HCL)
Nanhua 279
Bukit Timah 277
Nanyang 274
Rosyth 272/3Namie:
Perhaps frustration/disappointment caused him to lose control over his emotions. Don't let such matters hurt each other's (and the child's) feelings. At the end of the day, it's done and dusted with and time to move forward. I understand it's easier said than done but perhaps, try forgetting about result & academic issues for the today at least and just wind down after going through a roller-coaster of emotions.Husband is very unhappy with child’s results. Lastly, do stay positive and let your DD know results are not the only gauge for success. Process - especially personal growth is as important (if not, even more). Jiayou!

Why bother with JC? JC - A Level - is just a stepping stone to University. If university is the endgame, you should be aiming for that.PSLE result out today

At this point, your son’s most logical pathway is N Level - ITE - ITE (Higher NITEC) - Poly (Diploma) - University.
For NT, no O Level, it’s straight to ITE. If you want to take O Level (other than being a private candidate), you will have to be transferred / promoted to Sec 2 NA.
