My DD cannot decide whether to choose NJC, MGS (IP) or SCGS (IP). Which one has a better program? Does any one know?

Unfortunately she is not keen in IB program and she doesn't want to be at the bottom of the batch with COP so close to her scores. So MGS IB is out for her. But we respect her decision which ever it is. So needs to feel happy and at peace with her choice.

Thanks. She is not really keen to go RGS so deciding one either NJ or MGS. The rest of the schools are too far for her. There's no preference between IP or O levels track. Which is why it is hard to make a decision.

Based on last year’s COP, MGS and RGS had the same COP at 260. I do not think there will be much fluctuation this year. Both are good schools but if your daughter prefers MGS, then may I suggest you put MGS (IB) as #1 instead of MGS (O). I think she stands a very good chance with a tscore of 260.

Friend’s DD (not from MGS primary) picked MGS (IB) over RGS, so far no regret and lovin it.

I am not familiar with MGS (O) thread so I can’t comment much, it should be very good as traditionally they churn out students with good O level results.

          My girl has 255+2,

          In order of preference
MGSIB, MGS Os, NJC, SCGS, Fairfield Methodist, BPGHS

Is this ok.. Views pls. Which school stands a higher chance?

We stay in West, but I work in Payar Lebar.
So will drop her off in the morning.
          :thankyou:

Just calculated that MGS IB, 6 years will cost $25K in school fees alone. Maybe should put NJC as first choice. :lightrod:

From another perspective, it is so much cheaper in MGS than doing IB in an international school!! 😂 International school costs $25K or more a year.

If school fees are a real concern, then I suggest you don’t put MGS as your 2nd choice. With a tscore of 255, your child may or may not get into NJC. And if she does not get into NJC, very likely she will end up in MGS (O), also not cheap. For MGS (IB), at 255, the chances are slim.

SCGS is also an independent school. You can consider St Nic as the alternative choice.

This year esis is 260. Called Moe and they said so.

Is it possible for the cut-off for ESIS to change/lower after S1 posting, since some of the students who are eligible may not go to independent schools?

MGS offers bursaries for those who meets the income criteria. https://www.mgs.moe.edu.sg/secondary/admissions/school-n-miscellaneous-fees-secondary

Top 1/3 is str-fwd using PSLE T-Score, so as to prepare a whole battery of processes to award kids.

But COP of individual schools will depend on the cohort that applied to respective schools, which will only be determined after all Sec 1 places allocated.

How is it straight forward? The independent schools are just a collection of individual respective schools. How MOE know how many of those with 260 or above this year will choose independent schools? So the 260 is in reality a forecast based on top x% of PSLE T-scores. At the end of the day, the actual top one-third of those going to independent schools may be higher or lower than 260.

Please read carefully. I’m referring to the top 1/3 for awards is alr collated for EISS even before PSLE T-Score received. Isn’t this str-fwd?

Unlike COP for each sch, which cannot be determined until all Sec 1 applicants submitted S1 Option.

You’re referring to diff issues here. You’re ref abt IP COP. No one can tell any of us now.

COP for ESIS is firmed & indicated in your PSLE Results, so that the award is allocated for defeat of fees in sec sch. That was the point I was trying to indicate as MOE collates top 1/3 for this award - straightforward. It’ll not change unless in a remote chance someone discovered a student’s results mid-post & the final score push this individual up amongst top 1/3, which is doubtful.

                    Hi

Does anyone know what’s the cut-off for 3rd language option for Japanese, French and German?

My DS scored 250 but was not offered. So 250 is not TOP 10%.

:scared: Wa, your girl is very mature to think this way!!

MGS(IB) is a very good prog and with 260, she should be able to cope with the academically rigorous curriculum. In any case, the child’s happiness is just as important. All the best for your choices
