Top 1/3 is str-fwd using PSLE T-Score, so as to prepare a whole battery of processes to award kids.

But COP of individual schools will depend on the cohort that applied to respective schools, which will only be determined after all Sec 1 places allocated.

How is it straight forward? The independent schools are just a collection of individual respective schools. How MOE know how many of those with 260 or above this year will choose independent schools? So the 260 is in reality a forecast based on top x% of PSLE T-scores. At the end of the day, the actual top one-third of those going to independent schools may be higher or lower than 260.

Could it be that MOE calculated the total number of places in IP school and multiply it by 1/3. Then take this number from the top student in the whole nation and count it downwards. Where it stops then that is the cut-off point for ESIS.

      Just my guess.

This ESIS is for those heading independent IP schools.

If at end of Year 1 or Year 2, student don’t do well in IP exam, still got to pay school fees in full? Means at every year end, review results to determine if ESIS is applicable for next year ?

[/quote]See? It takes someone making snarky comments before people start applying their minds. 😉

It matters not whether it is top 1% or top 2% or top 3% or top x% where x varies depending on each year's cohort size and number of places in independent schools. Whatever it is, it is not what MOE says it is, but at best a forecast.

In fact, it would perhaps be better if MOE had just said that ESIS is awarded to the top x% of PSLE scorers who go to independent IP schools. Or perhaps that is no longer politically correct?

How is merely pointing out the error in MOE's definition sour grapes? Such is the elitist attitude of some people...

Dear Parents, we are new to the posting system and are not familiar the schools,....our son's tscore is 234, should we chose clementi town (231), which is 15min walking distance from home, or Fuhua Sec (232), which is 35 mins away by bus ? My relative said Fuhua' culture is better (chinese based) and overall ranking or perception is better than clementi town. They also said for secondary school, it is not important for the kid to be near home unlike primary school. In short, Fuhua's \"better name\" is worth the travelling time. Any knowledgeable parent on the two schools or how important is travelling time mean to a kid, please advise. Thank you so much. :thankyou:

Different children have different levels of stamina and preferences. I think the travelling time does make a difference since the school hours are long (reach home 4pm-7pm). Being walking distance to the school has its advantages especially if the CCA is intensive. Some parents don't mind travelling 1h to go to a branded school but they have cars to send the kids to school or do carpooling. Ask your child since he is the one doing the travelling. See which other factors appeal. I think both schools are okay.

Just went to fuhua again and walked around the neighbourhood. Talked to residents and a student there, they all give very positive view. Thank you. :thankyou:

Was given a choice between Express and NA.

Will be placed out for Express? Or just go for NA? 😓 😓
                  Express choice
                  1) 2 points above COP (ACS Barker)
                  2) 3 pts
                  3) 3 pts
                  4) 3 pts
                  5) 3 pts
                  6) 3pts

Sorry I couldn’t trace back one old post, thread simply runs too fast.

Earlier someone asked about St Andrew or Maris Stella (SAP) for his only son.

For me I would go for Maris Stella.
Hubby’s nephew was from St Andrew and he was badly bullied in school. Likewise for my neighbor’s son!!
Maris Stella is affiliated to CJC whereas St Andrew is affiliated to SAJC. For colleague, I prefer SAJC than CJC. Anyway for boys, I prefer to send them to co-ed schools.

                        Hi

Does anyone know what's the cut-off for 3rd language option for Japanese, French and German?

My DS scored 250 but was not offered. So 250 is not TOP 10%.

My dd is offered 2 options for 3rd Language ... Chinese or Arabic
I am curious as to why my dd is not offered other language choices?

Anybody encountered this now or before?

Above 252 then offered German, French, Jap etc
