Hi! My daughter is applying for NYGH thru DSA and I would like to know her chances of being accepted. My girl is a GEPer in RGPS and is a higher chinese student. Her percentage score for SA1 for Chinese is 86.75 (GEP paper) and the rest of her subjects are around 80% also. Thanks

Chances very high. Last yr they only interviewed the GEPers with less than 80% aggregate. My DD was accepted via DSA under GEP.
This yr new principal, don't know whether will change, just go for the open hse this weekend to check. -

Yes, I think that may be a problem... now my daughter comes and tells me she got high 70s for science and 60 for math! :?:angelee998:

EXTREMELY high. Actually, not really possible to fail DSA. -
Btw what are they looking for from the interview ? What questions will they ask and how many people (teachers + current students ?) are at the interview table ? One student at a time ? How does one perform "badly" for an interview ?

Hi, xxjustakidxx, angelee998,
They will ask things like : if other schs accept you as well, which sch will you choose to go?
If I remember correctly, last yr, abt 3 person interviewed 1 student, including the principal. Don’t know whether will they change this yr. Go to the sch website & chk for details while applying for DSA. During sch open hse last yr, they have a talk for GEP parents & students.
The level of confidence the student shows during the interview is important, I think. My DD passed the first interview, another of her friend with abt same grade have to go thru a second interview. End up her friend scored better than my DD in PSLE. -
Thanks Natif Mummy. Will ask DD1 to read up on NYGH values, etc on the website too.

Last year around these period I was undecided on my girl choice of school. My girl have finally joined NYGH and she seems to like the school. At first I thought $here $ there is true(when she just started her study in NYGH) but as time passed, it don`t seem to be the case.Original Title: RGS or NYGH
If my gal is better at languages and weaker at math, which school should she choose. She is also an average student in her class. Any advice.
I think there is lots of school work and couple with CCA activities (something like 5 days a week for a month before performance)she is quite busy.As she likes her CCA (string ensemble) she has no complain.)
So far have let her handle all her school work by herself and she has to learn to juggles her between school work (which include group activities, in a way she also enjoy the group activities) and CCA.
Have not regretted my decision to let her study in NYGH. Overall quite balance, not as my initial concern that she will turn out to be \"too quiet /straight/obedient\"
NYGH has a very active parent support group, though I usually don`t participate in the event due to my own preference(not anything to do with the activities organised)
My girl tell me tomorrow will be the NYGH open house and she will be involved in her CCA.
For those choosing a secondary school, you may want to visit the school open house.
(One thing good about NYGH DSA selection, for those selected in the first batch, you are informed very early.Last year my girl received her selection result in the morning on the day she went for her RGS interview(afternoon).I was so glad as it cerntainly ease a lot of her pressure in the important PSLE year)
Today she started her sabbatical(which I thick is about a week of non academic activities such as dancing, home economic, toy story, silat and etc. She choose dancing and I am so glad when she came back she told she really enjoy the dance activity)
A bit of info for sharing.
All the best for those applying for DSA. -

Sigh…still waiting for my dd’s primary school to provide documentation for her achievements for 2010 so that I can apply for the dsa.
she is a prefect, represented school for interschool science quizzes and competition, SYF etc and yet her FT insists her P5 and P6 results are sufficient. :x -
Kbv, sigh, sometimes the teachers are not very well informed. My DD1’s ft also told the class that DSA is only for those students who most likely not get very good PSLE results! So outdated ! Many IP schools are recruiting abt 1/2 of total places during DSA. Her ft is also very reluctant to give out testimonials. I’m waiting for NYGH to send me the Bilingual Olympiad cert for the top 30 scorers (I only got the certificate of participation; during the prize giving ceremony they mentioned sending a cert to our addr) . I’ve got everything photocopied but waiting for that only ONE cert !! Anybody receive anything yet ??
