Some parents here really need more EQ!

if originally Raw score was 91 (eg. say, Maths) : candidate could score an A *
Question : Is the grading of the current PSLE being adjusted according to bell curve or does it reflect the raw score with only T score being bell curve? (i.e. if someone has an A* does it mean that for the paper they get >91% or it will be adjusted depending on what others get? )
But, after moderation (adjustment) based on P6 cohort performance : 91 no longer A *, fall back under A, miss your star :stupid:
In that case, new AL scheme (from 2021 onwards) better ?
If original Raw score is A *, under AL will remain unchanged as a star, because no moderation (adjustment) under AL -
Only MOE can give a definite reply whether raw or adjusted (undisclosed) scores will be used.
But we know that their main consideration is to reduce stress. Knowing tscore means being aware of where one stands and the kids sitting next to him. While it is a useful tool for aggregate measurements, trend analysis on time scale, policy and decision making, it has become apparent that the use of this tool may have deviated from its original intention, causing unhealthy stress and other effects to our precious next generation.
AL banding is saying that, those few points difference are no longer significant in measuring our kids.
Child A scoring 100 vs another scoring 92, they have the same potential and capabilities to take on what they would expect from secondary schools of the same tier. The extra time child A spents to perfect his score by drilling with worksheets after worksheets, tuition after tuition, is better spent taking up another hobby e.g. musical instrument or sport, something enjoyable for the child.
My own take away.phtthp:

Anyone knows how the posting system goes in my situation?! Kiddo got 257+2 and his preferred school choices are:
1) SAP SchA -> 1 point (include+2) above COP [259]
2) SAP SchB -> 4 points (include+2) above COP [259]
3) Non-SAP SchC -> 1 point above COP [257]
4) Non-SAP SchD -> 1 point above COP [257]
5) SAP SchE -> 6 points (include+2) above COP [259]
6) SAP SchF -> 9 points (include+2) above COP [259]
Scenario: Schs A B C D he didnt meet COP, and at this point he would be 'considered' together with other students at 257 right? Then at his 5th choice, he would be 'considered' back at 259.. and wouldnt the 'system' have already cleared those at 258 and 259? :? -
Dear parents,
Just to let you know that MOE now has included the \"median scores\" in addition to the low and high scores needed for a secondary school admission. Even in the \"Choosing your Secondary Schools\" booklet that every P6 student has, only the low and high scores are shown. This new median score might be useful in choosing your sec school.
Check this out at https://sis.moe.gov.sg/
Below is an example from Raffles Institution.
PSLE Aggregate Score
Aggregate range of 2017 Primary 6 students posted to 2018 Secondary 1
Non-Affiliation\tAffiliation
Lower\tUpper\t*Median\tLower\tUpper\t*Median
Express\t257\t 279\t263\t None-posted
* The Median PSLE Aggregate score is the middle score of a range of PSLE Aggregate score of a group of students; i.e. half the students have PSLE Aggregate score greater than the median,and the other half of the students have PSLE Aggregate score that are less than the median. Note: PSLE aggregates of DSA pupils are excluded from computation of median. -

I think it is not hurt to try first and second choice with high COP +2 above.Anyone knows how the posting system goes in my situation?! Kiddo got 257+2 and his preferred school choices are:

Make sure the last choice can definitely support u. -
Hi there,
Just a quick follow up from a message I had posted here (Page 205 or 215, I don't recall exactly so many pages added in two days :D),
After looking at my sister's score, and considering the feedback I have received from here, she is looking at these schools:
- MGS at Blackmore (Aiming for SBA down the road but O level for now and then IB or A Levels if she switches school)
- Cedar Girl's School
- Temasek Junior College
She is not considering RGS because she does not know the cut off and feels she won't get in, and also due to the tremendous pressure they supposedly put on the kids.
She was also considering Singapore Chinese Girls School. However, and we do not want to be rude at all here but just as candid as possible, and we do not want to sound ignorant, but we do not have any actual sources to how the culture is there, but she feels that she will not fit in there because she will be an extremely small minority. Does anybody have any experience for how the school is, because, while I do not know anybody from Secondary 1 - 3, I have a few friends from the school of higher grades who are very friendly, so I feel she may fit in, but she is still being quite wary. It would be great if anybody has tips for these choices, and especially helpful is anybody has any feedback for SCGS.
Thanks! -

My daughter was the only girl from her primary school who went to SCGS. She is sec 3 now. My daughter is quite quiet but independent, she initially banded with random girls who were also solo girls from their primary schools (quite a few of them) but it wasnt long before she had both SC and other friends. My impression is that the girls are nice and not very cliquish, lots of opportunities for interaction among girls from various classes and they go for a trip to Malacca in Sec 1 so was a nice chance to get to know room mates better and bond with their new class.

There are more girls from other schools in IP than Os as there is no affiation for IP. Hope that helps. My girl is in Os. -

I’m totally confused by your qn. Can u find a way to rephrase it more clearly?Anyone knows how the posting system goes in my situation?! Kiddo got 257+2 and his preferred school choices are:

Eg your DS’s T score is 257+2. Can u tell us the latest known cut off point for each of your 6 choices? Just the COP will do. Dun need to confuse us with how many points above or below.
