Some one mentioned in this topic not too long ago, grades eg. A or A* do not translate so directly to Tscore.
Hence, as tscore is considered adjusted, taking into account of mean and std dev which means taking into account of standard of paper and cohort. But grades shld be derived from raw scores.

So comparing kids with 1A* and 3As with those getting 2A* and 2As, tscores can vary differently.

I think it’s adjusted.
Don’t think A* = 91 in PSLE.
Can’t remember which year was it but many complained about the difficult maths paper.
In the end, the grades were quite good even though they didn’t finish all the questions.

Even if lesbian or gay it will still happens in co-ed school why need to pinpoint at the single gender schools?

if originally Raw score was 91 (eg. say, Maths) : candidate could score an A *

But, after moderation (adjustment) based on P6 cohort performance : 91 no longer A *, fall back under A, miss your star :stupid:


In that case, new AL scheme (from 2021 onwards) better ?
If original Raw score is A *, under AL will remain unchanged as a star, because no moderation (adjustment) under AL

Only MOE can give a definite reply whether raw or adjusted (undisclosed) scores will be used.


But we know that their main consideration is to reduce stress. Knowing tscore means being aware of where one stands and the kids sitting next to him. While it is a useful tool for aggregate measurements, trend analysis on time scale, policy and decision making, it has become apparent that the use of this tool may have deviated from its original intention, causing unhealthy stress and other effects to our precious next generation.

AL banding is saying that, those few points difference are no longer significant in measuring our kids.

Child A scoring 100 vs another scoring 92, they have the same potential and capabilities to take on what they would expect from secondary schools of the same tier. The extra time child A spents to perfect his score by drilling with worksheets after worksheets, tuition after tuition, is better spent taking up another hobby e.g. musical instrument or sport, something enjoyable for the child.

Anyone knows how the posting system goes in my situation?! Kiddo got 257+2 and his preferred school choices are:


1) SAP SchA -> 1 point (include+2) above COP [259]

2) SAP SchB -> 4 points (include+2) above COP [259]

3) Non-SAP SchC -> 1 point above COP [257]

4) Non-SAP SchD -> 1 point above COP [257]

5) SAP SchE -> 6 points (include+2) above COP [259]

6) SAP SchF -> 9 points (include+2) above COP [259]

Scenario: Schs A B C D he didnt meet COP, and at this point he would be 'considered' together with other students at 257 right? Then at his 5th choice, he would be 'considered' back at 259.. and wouldnt the 'system' have already cleared those at 258 and 259? :?

Dear parents,


Just to let you know that MOE now has included the \"median scores\" in addition to the low and high scores needed for a secondary school admission. Even in the \"Choosing your Secondary Schools\" booklet that every P6 student has, only the low and high scores are shown. This new median score might be useful in choosing your sec school.
