This is not true for VJC. The IP students are very good in critical thinking. But when it comes to content, drilling subjects, the O levellers are better, they know how to score.ilovelaksa:

Speaking from my experience only (others may think differently), there is a marked difference in the academic calibe of both IP and JAE and it shows at JC level. JAE students need a lot of hardwork, determination and peservance to catch up with IP students. -

Just as in any bunch of students, some will be more able and willing to mug and drill when it counts, and some will not (either they refuse to, or somehow just can't focus enough, or whatever). IP students may have had less drilling in the earlier years, but it doesn't mean they can't when they need to. My younger daughter was in an IP school and enjoyed the \"less drilling\" atmosphere up to Y4, but she and many of her schoolmates got down to the mugging and drilling in the JC years, just like every other JC student. The ability to mug and drill is more dependent on willingness than skill; students don't need to be \"trained\" from early years.
Of course, there will be some IP students who are less strong academically, less willing or able to mug and drill, or just don't perform as well for a multitude of reasons. Similarly, there are non-IP students who are academically able, hardworking etc etc, and they can do as well as the best IP students. It doesn't mean that a student in the O level track will necessarily do worse than an IP student. Things are never as clear cut as that. But given that, in general, the more able students go into IP, it's not surprising that IP students generally do better than JAE students, but there is a mixture throughout the range. -

Is hard (no point) to judge the academic caliber or performance between both IP and JAE students by simply based on 75 rank pts & above \"were dominated by IP students\".
Just an example only:
In the first place. if based on IP, this group already considered as top 10%.
So eventhough they have skipped the O level exam. I assume they already belonging to the group of \"Raw scorers of 6-8 points for L1R5\" (let's say)
Whereas those coming from JAE, (let's say) mainly with an \"average Raw score of between 9-11 points\". And in fact majority of JAE students depend on 2-3 points deduction from their bonus points to be eligible to enter to a particular IP JC with a cut-off-points of 8.
On top of that, an IP JC has more IP students than JAE students. -

Hello all, I would like to seek some advice from all of you.
My child entered a merged college last year and she was retained, therefore she has to repeat her JC1 this year.
She was a member of the Students' Council, and now that she is being retained, she has to leave her CCA as policy is that Students' Council cannot have any retainees. She is rather upset about this as she has sentiments towards Council and she is passionate and loves what she does there.
I would like to ask, whether there is any possibility for her to be able to appeal to the new principal and school management for her to remain in Students' Council? I know it has always been a policy for retainees to leave Council, but is there any possibilities for her to still remain in Council?
Please advise, thank you

I would rather she focus more on bringing her grades up than wasting time on a Council that kicked her out. Sorry to put it so plainly. Pick another CCA like a club if it is a requirement to graduate.

Since her merged Junior College had made it loud and clear that no retainee (repeat JC1 pupil) to remain inside school Student Council, just take up another Cca willing to take her in, and please focus on her A-level in 6 months’ time down the road. Sorry, for being blunt.
Must get her priorities, right. For now, with so little time left, since August 2019 is coming prelim, kindly focus, spend more time on her academics, so that she can do well, can enter a good course (faculty); in the university (be it local or overseas uni) -

She has shown that she needs more time to study, and being in the council is a very time- and energy-intensive CCA. My daughter was a councillor in her JC years, and I know how much it takes. Hello there, I do understand the rigour of being in Council, and my child is fully aware as well, which is why she is constantly seeking opinions from me on this matter. From a mother’s perspective, I do want her to excel in her studies and also develop as a person. She has indeed grown a lot through Council. I can see her passion towards what she does in Council, and I see her drive to do well now as she has already started revision for JC1. She has promised she would do well for her blocks, and I can see her effort. This is very in contrast to what she did last year, as she was always sleeping and did not want to study.

I would like to support her decision in hoping to keep Council as a CCA, and I would like to know what are some possible pathways I can take to help her keep Council as a CCA.
Will it help if I were to contact the Principal and have my child speak to him regarding this matter?
