        Hi all,

would like to know if any of your girls were from a neighbourhood school and got into CHIJ St Nicholas, did they feel left-out or feel ostracized since most of the girls were from the St Nicholas Primary School? It will only be a small handful of girls that are not from St Nicholas Primary.
At the age of 13, it's the beginning of the peak for puberty, as such, girls are more sensitive.
would really appreciate your comments here. 😉 Many Thanks!

St Nicks girl here, grey batch class of 2018, neighbourhood primary school alumni. Majority of IP students are from neighbourhood schools but by the time orientation ends, everyone would have formed at least some form of connection within the OG, class, or even across cohorts. Welcome to St Nicks!

To add on, for both IP and OP program : you'll get to meet many new friends. They come from a variety of schools, can be from

        - external, outside (Non-affliated) students. Not from the CHIJ family.

        - pupils from other CHIJ primary schools as well,
eg. they come from CHIJ Kellock, CHIJ Our Lady of Nativity (OLN), CHIJ Our Lady of Good Counsel (OLGC), CHIJ Toa Payoh primary, CHIJ Queen of Peace, etc.

For this group of pupils, as they are already very familiar with the CHIJ school culture & spirit, they adapt fast, like a fish swimming in water into St Nick.

        - affliated pupils from CHIJ St Nicholas primary.

From St Nick itself, each batch (year) : approximately 70 to 75 percent of SNGS primary school girls qualify to come back, continue their study in St Nick Secondary. Although they qualify, not all may come back. Some will choose to stay (come) back, while others may exit to some other Secondary schools, instead.

        Eg.

From the Top two Primary 6 classes per batch, there are a handful that
exit to RGS / Nanyang Girls High, the latter being a preferred choice, because St Nick herself is also a SAP school.

However, amongst the High ability performing P6 affliated pupils from the six P6 classes, there are also a number who scored 26x / 27x / 28x, yet also chose to remain (stay) back behind, inside either St Nick ( IP or OP ). Some of us prefer the independent approach learning, more projects-hands on oriented IP style of learning, while others feel more comfortable with the traditional, OP structured MOE syllabus. We choose the track, based on how our girls feel more confident in, which learning style suits them more ? is it the IP or OP track, that is more suitable for them, based on how they had studied, since P1 to P6 ? For this, parents must be very honest, because it is your daughter who is going to study, not the parent studying.

Anyway, it is ice-breaking time, get to know many new Sec 1 friends ! They all have entered via either by DSA, or by T-score.

At Sec 1, we form 5 IP classes, and 6 OP classes. O-level have one more extra class.

        IP : Integrated Program
        OP : O-level Program

In today’s orientation, there are so many girls wearing head-prefect / vice head-prefect / prefect badges from various TOP primary schools. It seems like more than 50% of the Sec 1 cohort is at least a prefect. From what I see, SNGS has no lack of future leaders. 😂

Almost all primary schools are represented. Many are from the affiliated primary, followed by girls from Ai Tong, Rosyth, Pei Chun, Kong Hwa, Nan Hua, Tao Nan, RGPS, Northland, Chong Fu, Nan Chiau, PLMGS, Holy Innocent etc etc. So many SAP primary school students choose to continue their next phase of the journey in a SAP secondary.

For St Nick (IP), at Year 4 or Sec 4,

2 are Triple Science classes, the rest (balance) are Double Science / Humanities classes.

In St Nick (IP), same as (identical to) SCGS (IP), we do not use GPA scoring (grading) system for IP.

For 2019 Secondary 1 students (born 2006) interested in taking up Spanish as a 3rd foreign language, note that Spanish is only available, offered at MOELC (Newton) branch. Spanish is not found in MOELC (Bishan).
