Greenie13:
panic whenever go to the bookstores as the assessment books are overwhelming. There are so many publishers with different subjects and targeted areas for each subject. It is hard to find one that could cover all.. If buy a few books can't finish too...

No problem at all, Greenie.
EL - Grammar & Vocabulary ones are the most useful, even if you can't complete the entire books. If the practices seem straightforward for your child, by all means skip a level or 2.
CL - the book does not offer fantastic 语文应用 examples, but passages are decent & being all-in-1 makes it easier. I shall update the thread if something fancier pops up.

math book for dd2
Being happy is an awesome trait Mks. I'm dropping MA Companion this time round, just going with the others, plus Maths Booster (Madeline Goh, eph), easier to pick out topics/questions this way.

Assessment books are good if you know which area the child is weak in or which areas you want them to focus/ beef up on - then you can get those specific topics/ subjects.

If you just want overall practice, why not consider just get the past-year papers instead?
They cover the syllabus in the relevant time-segments (CA1, SA1, CA2, SA2)... plus your kid gets to practice a whole paper with all the different components from different schools.

Yes, I am going for specified areas for improvement but in the mean time i also want a book for overall practice. Otherwise dd will be happily watching her Ipad/ TV programs. :stompfeet:

By the way, how to improve the consistency in applying the usage of grammars correctly?

DD can understand the concepts and reply correctly when being asked verbally but she makes mistake occasionally when being left to do the questions. Is it due to lack of practices?

@greenie. As you go through each grammar question, point out to her the clues (tense, uncountable/countable nouns...) to look out for in that situation. Have her annotate/highlight them. Another way is to have her read that mistake, see if she can spot her own error & rectify it.

Hi Any recommendation for P2 English and Chinese assessment books?

Thanks.
Hi Greenie13,

Shared these in the 2022 PSLE discussion thread:
Came across these at the bookshop the other day - very useful for brushing up on child's grammar and sentence structuring skills. Can get it as holiday supplementary exercises. 🙂

($6.90 & $7.90 respectively)
http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y292/zgl208/bookleta.jpg\">http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y292/zgl208/bookletb.jpg\">

Another 2 recommendations for sch holiday practices:

($3.90 each)
http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y292/zgl208/book1.jpg\">http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y292/zgl208/book2.jpg\">
Here are some other recommendations (just listing the ones for various purposes/practices, doesn't mean 'need' to get all of them :p) you can consider/go and take a look on :

For topical practice at the end of every chapter. There's a very useful list of 识读字&识写字, their HYPY, English definition and summarized Chinese definition (useful for PSLE Q7, 😎 for every chapter too.
http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y292/zgl208/topical.jpg\">

Can be used as handbook (notes + mixture of simple 习字, 填写汉字, 词语选择 etc. exercises ) to strengthen child's understanding of each chapter and/or assess his/her learning after each chapter, as well as a revision book prior to test/exam
http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y292/zgl208/handbook.jpg\">

Entire book is MCQ based (~15 MCQ per exercise) and the type of questions are exactly the same as those they will eventually be tested for in Pri 5 & PSLE (7 types, as listed in the 3rd slide here: https://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/forum/viewtopic.php?f=85&t=92344&p=1879670#p1879968)

However, do note that the words/phrases tested in questions are \"jumbled up\", i.e. not chapter by chapter (words/phrases that is learnt in 2B textbook may appear in earlier exercises etc.), thus I would actually advise getting the Pri 1 one, as a form of revision + foundation building.
http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y292/zgl208/mcq.jpg\">

Lastly, for practicing 看图写句子 + sentence structuring (句式) + sentence rearrangement (组句成段) + sentence construction (组词成句)
http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y292/zgl208/compo.jpg\">

Just a side note, some of the exercises in certain assessment books may include section that are not 'tested' in school but it is worth evaluating their value and assessing which aspect of language learning they can aid in. 🙂

Popular has a recommended list of assessment books. You can check with the senior Popular staff about which books to buy.

For English, I recommend the pink P2 EPH Grammar & Vocabulary MCQ book and How To Score English P2 - (includes Stimulus-based Conversation, Continuous Writing, Editing, Visual Text Comprehension, Comprehension Open-ended. )

To add on, practise 2018 P2 exam papers and go library to borrow more books for your child to read.
