MommyK:
There isn’t any streaming in P1. The girls won’t change from the class they were assigned to for orientation day and they stay in this same class until the end of P2.

really? i heard that while the parents were away, the kids were gauged individually and that is why they were still not assigned to their classes until much later. i suppose it could be a rumor after all since it is quite difficult to see each child's ability in the 1-2 hrs time frame. 😉

Oh! If that is true, then it is something new for the P1 2019 batch. For sure this year’s batch and those before did not have this. The girls were previously given their P1 class allocations before orientation day.

Delay in confirming classes could be due to house allocation. I think the school tries to ensure each house is represented roughly equally per class. Pupils of alumni or with sisters currently/formerly in mgs will be allocated the same house as their mums or sisters. Pupils with no such affiliations will be allocated Lee house.

Can anyone give feedback on MGS Secondary (IB)? Is it academically challenging? My daughter is very gifted when it comes to studies but we were looking for a course which provides well rounded development without sacrificing on academic rigour. Please advise

Hi all, i quote another poster mentioned few months ago:
This year is ballot for >1km in Phase 2B
31 vacancies, 30 students within 1km, 3 students at 1~2km
Is this for Dragon babies? Does it mean if normal circumstances, 2B within 1km usually get in no problem?
I've read the balloting history chart but didnt quite understand the 0.88 risk index thing for MGS.
Can someone explain the probability if I rent within 1km and join a church few years ahead?

Thanks! :rahrah:

Thanks! :rahrah:
Only for MGS, the balloting strategy is reversed for dragon year. Otherwise, MGS has always been highly risky to enter every year with very high chance of oversubscription.

If you aren't a Christian and you choose to magically convert to one, the pastor will know it. The level of suspicion is very high. Even when our daughter already got in long ago, every \"old bird\" was still asking my wife \"when is your daughter going to register p1\" as if she volunteered in order to become a member.

During my wife's membership class which was years after mine, a lot of parents were filtered out during the classes. They got baptised but were not accepted as members. Suppose, if you didn't get the membership in time for applying and you paid 24 x 2~2.5k rent, you would immediately lose around 50k. It is a huge gam-ble 😄

Thanks for the reply. :salute: First of all, what do you mean balloting strategy is reversed during dragon year?

You mean even within 1km and a methodist member theres high risk?
Can i confirm the baptise is for the parents only, not the kids right?

I mean my kids are still babies, so if I join a church now, its not going to be suspicious yeah? What do you mean a lot of parents were filtered out during classes? How? By what criteria?

I'm very curious how selective methodist churches are. I mean of course we would like our kids to grow up christian and with great values, so its not just converting for the school. But how much selection do they do even for membership? :?

Why 24 x 2~2.5k rent? The MOE statutory period is 30 months right?

ah, you are right. I keep remembering it as primary 1 and primary 2. 😂
