Surprised to read that the GPA calculation has been revised for Y3, and will be revised for Y4 from 2020 onwards.


Instead of (core 5 subjects + 3)/8, it's now (core 5 subjects + 1)/6. Since most of the boys take 9 subjects, they can have 3 subjects as 'buffer' excluding EL and HMT/MT. This makes it even easier to qualify for IP promotion.

With lesser subjects, it'll also be beneficial for those taking RA since that is known to be tough.

RGS also just shared the new GPA calculation based on 6 subjects - EL, HMT/MT, 1 Math, 1 Science, 1 Hum, and 1 best subject. For lower secondary, most take 7 subjects and some take 8 that count towards GPA. So everyone would have at least 1-2 “buffer” subjects. I would agree that it definitely reduces stress on the students. Glad that both R schools are harmonizing in this aspect.

Any experienced parents know how the CCA trials are being conducted? Does each trial take up the full 3 hr slot or the boys can move on to the next one after completing one trial ie can we put like 2 trials within a day? Seems like there’s not enough time to go through the trials/interviews. Thanks.

During my kid's time, A* was a pre-requisite to take the Galileo and Euler selection tests, with the latter also requiring certain levels of achievement in either RIPWMC, SMOPS or NMOS. But that was 2 years ago and things may have changed.

For a non-specialised sch, RI is considered very strong in some of the Olympiads, especially for Math and Physics.

My boy said that the trials were short, due partly to the number of students they had to screen within the short time frame.

Yah, it's getting somewhat similar to the O level L1R5 isn't it? That's also taking 6 subjects into consideration.

It's reassuring to know that one bad paper won't jeopardise the whole year's results.

Some cca welcome you experience the whole 3 hours. Some cca only need 30min for trial. But they all need registration in system. I remembered you can't choose two cca in the same time slot for trial.
