My dd juz got her o levels results,16 pts for L1R5 and 11pts for L1R4 without the 2 bonus points. You can mix the choices up by putting both JC (Science and Arts) and poly (the various business courses) too.

I would say that if she prefers the A level route, to try to get that if possible. Taking the poly route if there isn't something she wants to do can be a bit limiting, and it's 3 years. If she really wants to take A levels, there's MI too - although it is 3 years.

Sorry I can’t advise much about Poly if she doesn’t know which course she likes. What are her stronger subjects? That will give a clue as to which general direction she can go...

If u wanna try JC (to keep her area of specialization more open for the next 2 years), she can try CJC (Arts or Science), or Jurong-Pioneer JC (Arts or Science), or Yishun-Innova JC (Arts or Science).

For the recently merged JCs, the low COP may not be an accurate reflection of the quality of the school and teachers. I believe it just reflects last year’s poor demand because of the new merger (very few people want to join a newly-merged school). So if you live in the far North or far West, u may want to head down to the open house and take a look for yourself, how the school culture is really like.

31 jan is the result of school posting. 01 feb which falls on friday to report n appeal exercise. 02 feb onwards till 05 feb is CNY. Who on earth will have a mood to evaluate appeal process? All festive mood. When is the actual school reopens for Jc?

For Dunman High, the number of JAE seats opened for admission, are not many, therefore unlikely to impact the Cut-off-point of other JCs significantly

Perhaps you would like to visit the various Open Houses and ask the Ps, what was the intake number last year and what would it be this year? That would answer the supply side of the question. Last year, when all remaining JCs were told to increase intake because 4 merging JCs would not take in new students in 2018, most JCs COP increased (note: the higher the COP, the easier to get in, different from PSLE-S1 COP). When EJC started accepting JAE students in 2017, accepting 200-300 more students, COP of some top JCs also increased a bit.

So assuming no increase in intake numbers from all remaining JCs (since the reduction in intake from merged JCs was already compensated for in last year’s increase in intake from the remaining JCs), and no increase in intake from the merged JCs, the only increase in intake numbers would be from DHS and RV, which is only a very small number (80 each? So total 160), the prediction is that COP would not move much, maybe at most increase 1 point in some of the top few schools?

I would expect plenty of demand from the Chinese race for those 2. Can try if really keen cos COP may be high.

As for the safe choices, it’s anybody’s guess. It’s wiser to choose a good range of schools based on proximity to where u live. Then u won’t end up entering a school far far away that u don’t even like.

COP is unlikely to move much.

For the top / popular JCs, it may even reduce (ie improve) by 1 or 2 points given the outstanding result this year.
